Card Payments... Worldpay or Cardnet?

Hi,

I've gathered some quotes from both card payment acceptance providers, however I am just thinking who to go for.

Both 18 month contracts.

Worldpay works out to be around £8.50 cheaper per month than Cardnet. And their per transaction fees is lower.

However during the process of gathering quotes, Worldpay seemed a bit more sales driven and Cardnet seemed to have a more relaxed approach.

Even if it costs slightly more, I would rather deal with somebody who would give us less problems and be available should something go wrong.

What has been your experience if you have done business with the named providers?

What would be your suggestions, in this decision making process?

Two comments, neither of which are a recommendation but you may find useful.

I worked as a contractor at Cardnet a number of years ago (owned by Lloyds) and they are a good outfit which as you have discovered does not do volume pricing. Their processing is done by FirstData, an american outfit with a presence in Basildon.

Also FWIW, Worldpay are currently having some issues with their high volume gateway and some online retailers haven't received their funds for 2-3 weeks.

Hi @GetPaper - are you looking for a face-to-face terminal or online payments? Either way, if you are still looking for quotes we work with a number of acquiring bank partners with whom we can get preferential rates and terms for anyone who applies via ourselves. For chip&pin we would just be using our buying power to get you better rates, or for online we can provide a Payment Gateway service directly for you.

Feel free to drop me a PM if you wish to discuss further.

Thanks for the info, Worldpay was cheaper overall and did have extra benefits which they mentioned such as discounts and fuel cards etc. However when I buy pizza if the main piece isn't the best it doesn't matter much about the extra toppings. And this is what I am trying to get to with this thread.

Thanks again.
