Hello,

We're looking for a card payment processing method to give our customers an alternative to PayPal. At the moment, we're looking for one that doesn't charge monthly fees and would just charge transaction fees.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks :)

Stripe are great for quick setups as you do not need a merchant account but it does have its negatives such as suspending accounts for no reason. this is what Paypal are notorious for. I've come across many stories where businesses have been unable to take card payments due to the suspension of their accounts. it could be for a very small reason like a quick spike in sales and it triggers something in the backend, which gives them the right to put a hold on an account and then they wont give you the reasons why and then you're stuck and they're still holding onto your customers money. Be careful.
I would suggest hold onto PayPal and have a an extra option for your customers to pay, which would be via a payment gateway and merchant account provider. There are some out there that do not charge a monthly fee but your card processing rates can be as low as 0.25%. The more options you give your end customers on payment options the better your conversion rate, which = more sales!

As above, with a bureau type service you do run the risk of quick and harsh suspension of service and also likely to be higher % rates (and probably the same for each card type). Depending on your volumes a merchant account/gateway combo could prove more attractive and is worth considering getting some quotes for comparison.
