I am a self employed subcontractor who is not vat registered.
I have been told by a car leasing company that because I am not vat registered I will have to pay the personal price for a car on business lease although it will be a sole trader contract?

Can anyone shed some light on what this means please?

Thanks.

Leasing deals are designed for business customers, and being VAT registered is one indication of being in business. A small business will benefit from a 50% VAT recovery on a leased car, which is one reason the leasing company deals in this way.
The leasing company can choose its own terms and conditions; I am not sure you can do anything about it if they will not deal with you. But do discuss it with them. Will they accept alternative evidence that you are in business?

Hi,

I operate a car leasing company and can tell you the information you have been given reference being treated as a personal user is not right.

You can infact be deemed as a business regardless of being vat registerd or not.

By all means if you want to call me I would be happy to explain in more detail.
