Hello people,

I am trying to find an insurer that can cover a private car (=non business) for more than 30 days inside the EU.
The 30-days is the usual that the insurers cover however in this case this is not good enough.
Any suggestions / recommendations ???

Thank you

Please PM me.

Nationwide :Only available if your car is registered and normally kept in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands and is not kept abroad for more than 180
consecutive days.

Thanks for that.
Yes, still 180 days might not be enough.

As for the UK registration this cannot be anything else since all cars must be insured from the country that are registered in (EU law).

The only problem is the limitation of the travel days.

There are various options available it tends to depend on three key pieces of info:-
Maximum amount of days per trip?
Maximum amount of days per year?
Is your permanent residence in the UK?

As an example one insurer we use states:-
Up to 3 months any one trip and your vehicle must usually be kept in the UK

Whilst another states:-
Up to 60 days any one trip with no limits on the amount of trips you can make as long as your permanent home is in the UK.

Just be careful of the subtle differences.

In addition, if you are away long term, you are still able to arrange annual 'green card' insurance but this is limited and tends to be expensive.

I don't have the exact wording of my current -soon to expire- cover however it was stating something along the lines "EU cover is extended to the expiry date of the cover".
To me this means effectively 12 months in total.
Bear in mind that this is from a specialist broker and it included a free green card (not required in EU anyway).

What I'm looking for is to lower the premium which is going up year-by-year instead of down (no claims whatsoever).
Are you a broker?

Simple answer first - Yes I (we) are a broker.

All motor policies give the minimum required cover in the EU as standard.
The limits are usually to extend this minimum to match that of your own policy.

Unless you have bought a special annual green card policy, this virtually never gives 12 months as the standard limit.

I am a commercial and 'online' business specialist so am a little rusty in the private care area. However, if you would like to discuss this further let me know and I can arrange for a motor specialist colleague to help you.

I don't know how to distinguish a normal from a special Green card...
All I can see is that the card mentions a full year of validity plus some regional restrictions such as Northern Cyprus etc which do not apply to my use.

Please do pass me on via PM some contact details so I can contact you to see if something can be done for it.

Thank you.
