Can you tell if a bank account is personal or business

Hi,

This sort code 20 - 36 - 43 belongs to barclays.

Can you tell from the above sort code or the acc no if the account belongs to an individual or ltd company.

Reason is I think I am been billed by an individual that is claiming to be a ltd co.

Nope. Sort code just locates branch, account number is normally randomly generated. Might be able to fathom whether it's personal or business but then many self employed people have a business account.

If they are claiming to be ltd co check they exist at companies house.

To put you in the picture when I paid them for a service they appeared to be Mr X trading as X.

But now I am talking them to court they are claiming to be X Ltd and closing the company.

I am guessing the entity I paid will dictate who I can sue.

Generally speaking if he held himself out to be an individual "trading as " you've got him stuffed.

If I can find out it was him i actually paid then yes, think i will be ok as he is a home-owner just trying to wriggle out of refunding me.

H has set up 5 LTD in the last 4 years, dissolving everyone after a year never filing accounts.

If you paid by cheque, what did you write on the cheque?
