Can you resell a returns product?

If someone buys something from your website and open it and it's broken, obviously they would return it to you to return to the suppliers.

If it's something like a t-shirt that has been taken out of the packaging and the customer has tried it on, realised it doesn't fit so returns it back for an exchange or refund. Can you then pack the product up properly again and re-sell it? Does the new customer need to be aware that this is a returns product?

(If the product has not been removed from the packaging, then I would guess it's okay to sell it again)

You can resell anything, but you can't always resell it as new.

In terms of clothes if the buyer removes the tags, then that is classed as them accepting the goods, and generally they can't return it, however if for some reason we do accept it, we can resell it, but we have to inform the customer of the condition and the price drops accordingly.

Also shops don't always have to accept returns however the do to keep their customers happy, and it works.

Yes you can re-sell as new.

In my youth I worked the returns department of M&M Direct (was M&M Sports) and that's all we did all day. Open the returns that were to small/big/didn't like, then take them out of the packet, re-fold, re-bag and re-label if needed. Then back into stock.

This was a reply from one customer, although it was resolved after a quick phone call to both our pleasure.

Andy,

Why couldn't you just tell me the truth? I kept asking and every time you replied you must have become more angry. I wouldn't have been offended. A simple "Chris, this Laptop stinks of cigarette smoke and, being a non smoker, I am going to have to put it somewhere for a while to de-stink" would have sufficed. That way we would both have known what was going on and this whole debacle would not have arisen. Being a smoker, I was not aware of the smell just as people who eat garlic are not aware of the smell on their breath.

Wouldn't it be better to change your return policy so that it did not include smokers? That way there will be no cause for you to be offended and feel sick in the future. Otherwise, if a smoker cuts up rough within your guarantee period you could be in serious legal trouble and I wouldn't want that for anyone.
