What would the view be on not doing Xmas cards but donating the money (cost of card / stamp etc) to something like:

planting a tree
a goat for a family in Africa
others - suggestions?

I would love to do this but always succumb to peer pressure of sending them. But then I just end up taking them to be recycled afterwards. Such a waste.

One of the schools I used to work in did this one year. We were twinned with a school in the Gambia, and instead of all the staff sending Christmas cards to each other, they all signed one huge card in the staff room and donated the money they would have spent on individual cards. The money was spent on sponsoring a child in education in Gambia.

I think it's a fab idea.

On the note of Christmas things appearing, I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the main post office branch here had the last posting dates for Christmas advertised.
