Can I have two brands, as a sole trader?

Hi there

I am about to start selling my product which has a brand name, but the brand name is very specific to that product. It's a baby product that I design myself.

I also want to go down another route which is to design fabrics for baby & childrenswear, but I don't really want it to be under the brand name of the first product as it doesn't really make sense.
However, it would be ideal to keep my accounting streamlined and only have to do it once, so can I register as a sole trader in one name, but also have another brand under it too?

Hope that makes sense!
Thanks :)

Yes, your company name doesn't have to be your brand name so long as all the legal stuff is in your company name you can promote several different brands. Invoices etc should be clear as to the legal entity that is billing on behalf of the brand : Company Ltd T/A Brand Name.

I went down the two brand approach when I started and all it meant was 50% or my marketing went in to one and the other 50% went to the other. This meant neither was getting my full 100% and I had twice as many websites to look after etc.

If there is a specific need (two totally different services for example) go for it, if you are doing it to have two bites at the cherry in the marketing stakes it is probably a false economy.
