Can I have an opening 'Sale'?

BananaBags

Hi,
I am just starting out so I apologise if this is a very obvious question!
I have just set up an online shop selling bags and want to offer a promotion for the first couple of weeks.
I know that for an item to be in a sale, it has to be at a higher price for a certain amount of time but can I offer a blanket 20% off my start up prices without breaking any rules?
Thanks

Hi and welcome.

I can't see any real problem with what you're suggesting, just be honest and upfront about it, say that these bags would normally retail at £xxx but for the first 2 weeks (or whatever) you are discounting them to help get your name out there.

You don't have to call it a sale, just offer it as an introductory bonus.

Even better, do you have a newsletter with an email signup as part of your store? (If not you should have!), offer a 20% discount code to anyone who signs up to your email list. That way you're getting the sales and capturing the permission to market your products to them repeatedly and they are getting their 20% off.

That's a win win situation in my book.

Good luck and I hope you're not waiting too long for your first sale!

I was a bit disappointed that none of your bags were made of bananas or had the appearance of bananas. Why is it called bananabags?

Also no offence intended, but I am not sure that anyone will order off your website anyway, it needs a lot of improvement.

indeed.

your website may need a little more work before offering discounts. are you selling anything from the site at the moment?

you also need to put a returns address in.

Oh my god, how embarrassing, my site is supposed to still be under construction due to be 'launched' in New Year as an extension of a 'spare time' offline business which I am hoping to grow. I am still just fiddling around and trying to figure out how to make stuff look like it does in my head (which it never seems to :|)

Having said that all feedback is gratefully received as this is all really new to me and I really appreciate the benefit of your experience.
