Can I get a new VAT number?

Hi all,

I am self employed and registered for VAT.

Towards the end of last year due to parcels being lost in the post over Christmas both eBay and Amazon shut my accounts because of a few negative feedbacks from upset customers who's items did not arrive in time for Christmas.

I now want to start totally afresh so I can get selling on both sites again, including being able to put a new VAT number on eBay and Amazon to claim back some of the fee costs.

I have everything else I need. New telephone number, address and can open a new business bank account so in the eyes of eBay, Paypal and Amazon nothing seems suspicious.

Can anyone offer any advice on this and anything else I need to do to get back on these sites as my business highly depends on them.

Not sure how legit this new identity is morally, but I'll take you on face value and in answer to your question, if you form a Ltd company you can get a new VAT number for each Ltd company you form.

This is my understanding of it anyway, I'm sure someone else will have more of an insight.

As a sole trader your VAT registration (and VAT number) applies to all business run by you as a sole trader.

The only way to get a new VAT number would be if you incorporated and traded through a limited company.

If you want to continue doing business as a self-employed, you will not be able to get the new VAT. You can do so, if you register a ltd.
