Can anyone custom build epos software? I'm struggling to find someone for a system I want in a bar in Peterborough.
Would love someone local really but just anywhere if someone can do the job.
Needs doing asap.

Hey,

I mainly program with C# using Mono. It's cross platform and fast. I certainly can help you but first a few questions.

Why do you want someone to program an EPOS system? It would take a lot of time to develop a system reliable enough to use in production. From a financial point of view you maybe better off purchasing EPOS software or a hardware solution that comes with EPOS software.

Are you looking for something in particular that no other solutions offer?

Again I would be happy to help you but I wouldn't want you to go ahead ill advised.

Hi thanks for reply I know nothing about systems etc but want a cash register system to run a specific promotion .... Companies I have emailed said I need an epos system however will only do software if I buy all the latest machines from them new. I want to get up and running as cheap as possible to see if promo works for us before investing in new machines so would rather use second hand hardware. I'll pm u details mate as bit long winded.

Hi

Speak to Richard at Easify http://www.easify.co.uk/

He has an "off the shelf" ePos system already but also does custom work.

Hi yeah it'll be "off the shelf" for the main bar functions it's just a "guess the score" promo I do I want made up as some form of add on. I've had couple of quotes but no one seems to be able to do in under 5 weeks which is bit of a shame as wanted done before end of season.

It is difficult to custom built this software in a 5 week timeframe. I can clearly see that you have many constraints such as timeline, price and you need quality product. Considering so many constraints if somebody claims to be doing it for you then clearly assume it to be rip-off. Secondly, I would recommend buy off the shelf in your case.

You would save a lot of wasted time if you placed your requirements here, it's obviouse you are not going to get a system made in 5 weeks, but unless you have tried all epos systems you wont know what they can do and there is probably thousands of epos users on this forum who may be able to help if you give them the requirements

Hi chris the reason I never posted is simply because it's long winded didn't wanna fill a page. This is only a "add on" to current software and have been told 5 weeks is fine I was just trying to get quicker.
If anyone wants full details they can pm me.

I have a software development company and we have developed a range of solutions for various retailer types.
We have solutions in the hospitality sector (www.freshbytes.co.uk) and have looked at the general bar/pub sector, which in the main I find the software to be(lets be polite here) expensive and ineffective, however, I am sure there are some quality suppliers out there - Micros springs to mind as one.
To give you some idea of bespoke software costs, a fully designed management/epos solution with database back end can take some 1500 man hours to develop (at a cost of £50 per hour = £75,000). We are currently redeveloping one of our mainstay retail solutions and I can assure you that for a quality solution anyone who says they can do it for peanuts either doesn't know the industry or is extremely charitable.
I would honestly look for an off the shelf solution as this is the only price effective route.
    Hope this helps...
