Its a long hard slog I'm afraid to get a break. You just need to keep applying and applying. The big Bluechips like IBM, Accenture, HP etc have huge server estates. They have teams of people who still do manual hands and eyes monitoring, asset taggging, auditing etc, always a good way in.

Or short term contracts, pc support or whatever skills you currently have, and start building up your skill set. Get exposure to different companies and be a sponge, learn as much as you can. Go above and beyond and get noticed. Always keep an eye out for new opportunities.

In the evenings keep studying, if you are going down the techie route, buy cheap old kit and set up a test rig. Recereate issues you've come across during the day, and resolve them more effectively. Its a highly competitive market, but shine and you will stand out.

Dont expect instant huge IT salaries, mundane monkey work pays peanuts, but experience and a good grounding are priceless, and will be worth it in years to come. Seasoned Security consultants and ethical hackers are a highly prized resource if you make it.

since you did your masters in computer security, i assume you ideally want a job in that particular sector.. which is not going to be easy without any previous experience..

First path towards getting a proper job is having a few certifications under your belt, mcse, ccna etc. Employers love these, also it will prepare you a bit more for the real world.

as you are starting up, best job you can get is tech support. Its not hard, and it will give you invaluable skills and experience.

if you are really keen on the security side, I suggest you check out the BS 7799 course, I think they changed it to ISO 27001 or something now. Also certifications like CISSP, GIAC, SANS etc is a must.

A lot of people working in security are freelancers or contractors, there's lots of opportunities if you know what you'r doing. pm me if you need more info on that.

hope it helps.

Experience counts more than your degree.. Try to find anywork...even if you have to volunteer for some time - related to your field - and then you can go and seek job out there - I have two masters degrees, never in my professional life i have been aksed about them.. only what i can do for them
