I would like to know if non-UK person can register .co.uk and .uk domains?
Yes they can. You would register a .co.uk domain name if the UK was your main market. There are rules, for example, on .ltd.uk etc - http://www.nominet.org.uk/uk-domain-names/registering-uk-domain/choosing-domain-name/rules - See our domain registration services at https://www.nuttyabouthosting.co.uk/domainchecker
Yes anyone can buy a .co.uk
I completely agree... Anyone can buy a .co.uk domain.
You can buy and domain as long as it is not take by someone else
Yes, anyone can register a .co.uk and .uk domain, although existing owners of .co.uk domains should get first rights to the .uk domain when the extension launches in June this year.
Further info here:
And feel free to use our domain name checker to see if the domain you want is available.
Good luck getting the name you want!
what about us buying domains abroad - i think there are restrictions on that so surely there are some coming the other way - or maybe not ?
It depends on the NIC's rules (e.g. Nominet for .co.uk domains). It is quite easy to buy from most countries through one of the global registrars (GoDaddy, Directnic, Ghandi, etc), but there could be restrictions on some specific TLDs.
As pjperez says it depends entirely on the NIC, and these are different for different countries, so while some countries' governing bodies can be quite strict about who can register a domain, others like Nominet aren't.
A classic historical example is .fr - where you had to be a french resident in order to register a domain with that extension:
No prob with anyone buying a .co.uk but i think i have come across some domain extenstion that are only sold to pple within that country.. Its either a canada or chine extension
Yes, anyone can buy a .co.uk domain name however there are various domain names that you have to live in that region to be eligible for the domain for example .ie .london etc.
There's many tld's that are restricted to nationals of the country rightly or wrongly.
You need to have a UK address to register .uk domains.
Personally I used to host my personal portfolio on .co.uk domain when I was in the UK. Should be no problem
yes, you can buy .co.uk domain even you are abroad
So what about when a company wants a presence in a country with a local domain
Of course anyone can buy .co.uk domain from anywhere.
I guess they would have to open shop in the country
Shouldn't be a problem - if you are unsure maybe contact Nominet ( you will have to google it as it won't let me post the link )
Ofcourse, you can buy a .co.uk domain. But, make sure your target market is in UK for such domains, else you could end up being a laughing stock.
