Can a business opportunity work as a press release?

I have now put together a job/business opportunity for designers to be running their own 'branch' of The Kitchen Designer. It is very unique and there is nothing like it on offer within the industry.

There are a couple of highly respected trade mags in which i would love to have it advertised in, but am aware of the high costs!

So i'm wondering, due to the fact the opportunity is unique and has a lot to offer, whether i could do a press release about it to gain attention? :D

Every little helps.

Don't forget a press release is supposed to be a few paragraphs of well selected information which the press industry can use to write articles about you in all forms of media. So try not to make it sound like a blatent advertising plug like a lot of people do on here.

In addition to a release, maybe it would be worthwhile pitching the editor on a potential story/article - ie. Could you become a kitchen designer in 60 days? you take a relative 'newbie' through your system and they end up running a successful design business

I think it's also something you might pitch outside the trade mags (as a story idea or a press release). The way to make it more than just a sales pitch is to be able to use someone as an example - even if they've just started.

As long as you have an interesting angle to your story - it can be newsworthy - for this item to work you would really need to push home how this development will provide benefits to budding designers - I think this story has fabulous potential and could be an ongoing story - once the intitial release was out you could then chose one of your 'star pupils' and actually follow them through the process of learning the business, right through to them finally standing on their own two feet!

There are plenty of publications (both on and offline) for people looking for business ideas and this one sounds great!

If you need any help with developing the strategy for this first release and further releases then please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.

Best wishes

Jenna - thanks for your post, i may well be in touch!

Steve - this is a point that i have thought of, but i dont believe there is a way i can protect this in any way. It is a unique approach in the kitchen industry, and i know of no-one else doing this. It has taken a lot of work to get a client base going so that i have the need for more bodies, and i made sure all aspects of the package are as innovative as possible.

I have more to offer to designers than just selling kitchens, as there is a whole other side (B2B) to the business for them.

Need an angle? Think first, biggest, best, most.

Saying you've 'launched a new franchise opportunity' (sounds like that's what it is?) might well get you some coverage. But it's a bit dull.

Stonger is if you do something to celebrate the launch of the new franchise.

I like textstart's feature idea. And perhaps, to 'celebrate', you could offer a free "Top 10 Tips to Launch your Own Kitchen designing Business" pdf download from your site - featuring all your franchise's unique selling points.

Moving forward don't forget to celebrate each new franchisee.

And celebrate your combined turnover totals if you want tog et in the lcoal business and national trade press. They love figures and stats.

If your press release is as good as your media competition you'll be on to a winner!
