Hi

i am looking for an open source (or v cheap) call recording software system that can not just record calls but log report the originating number, call duration, time of day etc. Ideally one that works with voice over IP (VOIP) and allows anyone with a log in ID and username to see the data and play back the calls from a pc

does any one know of one?

One of our competitors that I see a lot that offers an open source basic option is orecx..I think they call it oreka gpl. The free open source ones have limits...really depends on if you are just using it as a logger and nothing beyond that. Such as quality control, training, or extraction/muting of recordings, reports, etc.

If you want features that will make the recordings act more as an asset and allow you to really monitor employees and help train them then I would investigate into a paid call recording solution. Their are a lot of affordable but feature rich solutions out there.

If you want more details just PM me or reply in this forum.

I would second @versadial suggestion of OrecX. I'm testing it at the moment. There is an Open Source version that is freely downloadable. However any such call recorder uses packet sniffing to collect the VoIP (SIP/IAX/H.323) voice calls and store them. In the case of OrecX they are stored in compressed GSM format meaning they take up very little space. However in order for the packet sniffing to work you need a managed network switch or firewall that support port mirroring (sometimes also called port monitoring) or an old style Ethernet hub or some sort of Ethernet tap point. Once you have that though it works very well.

The interface to OrecX is via a web front end so it's pretty easy for anyone to access and use it.

HI again and thank you all for your help

The call recording software i need is not for employees it is for use for a inbound calling service.

it needs to :

allow multiple clients to log on to a portal to view calls they received
multiply the amount of calls by the per client price thus producing an invoice
flagging calls if they are sales calls (thus not chargeable)
record the phone conversation
log the call duration
see up a soft telephone number for their use only - and it needs to at least appear to be a geographic number for the area they live in - eg if my client is in central london it needs to be 0207 xxx xxx

the functionality i need is similar to that used by call handling companies like answer.co.uk- i dont want to pay a developer to do a bespoke build since i am sure that such functionality must exist in a bit of (configurable) off the shelf software?
