So, After much deliberating and maths work I have decided to bite the bullet and purchase a cafe. It is in the hands of the solicitors at the moment and (fingers crossed) progressing well!
Can anyone give me anyhelp with naming it though. It is in a busy tourist location - by the sea (although no beach).
I need something catchy- preferably with the word 'cafe' in the title!

Thank you for taking the time to read my post!

What kind of customer will you be getting (or aim to get!)?

Old or young?
Business or Casual?
Male or Female?

If you're not sure it might be worth sitting outside the cafe, and doing a tally of people passing... if you find that you get a lot of mature business-type women passing by, it's probably worth looking at aiming a bit more towards them...

you could then take it a step further and do another survey - a quick 3/4 question one... stand outside and stop every mature business-type woman and ask them if they could spare 30 seconds, with simple questions about whether they want/need a cafe, what they'd like to see from a cafe....

I'm guessing you've done some similar research, but by knowing who you're targetting you can get a better idea of a name.

Eg;

A cafe targetting pensioners would *probably* want quite a humble, friendly, soft name...

whereas 18-30 year old professionals would probably want something more sharp, quirky, modern and stylish........

I say probably because there's always exceptions to the rules ;)

Have a good bank holiday!

Why do you want the word 'Cafe' in the name? Won't it be obvious that the establishment is a cafe when people walk past it? It would be more informative to have 'Coffee' or 'Tea room' or something in the title to give the focus of your business and to give people an idea of the likely ambience.

Having said that, a cafe is the sort of business that people decide to enter impulsively, based on the look of it. They don't do a lot of research on the internet, as they might when looking for another type of business. The name isn't quite so crucial for this type of business -- most people won't pay attention to it if the decor and menu look ok. I agree with Will above.

A cafe has just opened in our town and literally taken the town by storm. It has the owner's name followed by "Cafe". It took over from a previous cafe which was always empty and had no customers at all.

I have tried to work out what the difference is between the two and why one failed and the new one is heaving with queues outside the door. After all the location is the same.

The old one was modern and clinical with no charm - a Starbucks imitation with a large coffee menu. The new one is country style rustic in a shabby chic way with handwritten blackboards, floorboards, exposed brick wall, mismatched chairs, old florals etc.

The new cafe has home made cakes in the window attractively displayed together with bistro type salads/pasta/charcuterie etc. The old one had bottled drinks in a fridge and bought cakes and sandwiches in plastic wrappers.
