What country will you be importing them in from? I ordered a soldering tip from the USA which cost £20 but had to pay DHL £40 for customs! Secondly with the goods are coming from a different country what type of guarantee will you provide? Many shop owners and suppliers simply say "your warranty is with the manufacturer and not us" which is simply not true. If you sell an item the customer can come back to you and ask you to deal with it if there is a problem.

Furthermore some products have serial numbers on them (especially Apple) which can only be serviced in the country which they were purchased. I had an iPhone come in on ATT network which is from America for a repair, I checked it still had warranty and recommended my customer to go to the Apple store. Apple then told him that they could not service the product. So make sure if you are importing goods in you are able to provide a clear warranty service/returns policy.

When you import you pay Royal Mail (or alternative) their own delivery charges from the UK Port to your door, you pay import taxes on what you brought and you pay the import taxes directly to Royal Mail (or alternative) who charge you fee's for collecting it.

Many high technology products are manufactured in the US. While cheaper by the time import tax is added on and the fee's charged for collecting them you aren't any better off.

With Chinese markets you can get some very good deals like an Ipad for £18. Delivery charges from China to the UK are very low if its a Chinese Courier. Import taxes and fee's for collecting them don't amount to much so you make a killing. The catch is you've got to know which factory websites to go on, you need to check the items run on UK electricity suppliers and your supplier must be trustworthy because if you get stung its hard getting your money back.

It isnt illegal to import and resell. Bulk purchases also get your better deals for example if you're prepared to buy 250 top of the range Intel chips retailing at £250 each you get sold them at £25 per unit from the Chinese factory.
