Hey you all,

Its good to have found this forum, really. That said, I'm here to ask for help and advice. Okay, the thing is, I just graduated from Uni, studied business and I am very interested in buying existing businesses, making them more profitable, and then selling them at a good price. Now, I know that turning a business into a successful one isnt an easy task, though, you'd be surprised to see how many businesses get into financial hardship because of unneccessary expenses.

So, please, give me your insights on the subject. thanks indeed.

Well, we own an apartment overseas, in a few years time when the economy goes up again, we'll sell that flat and then, eventually, I'll have enough finance to do it. I've done some research, you can find a business at at $70,000 that makes about $180,000 a year. It doesnt look that bad to me. Did you happen to know anyone who've done something similar?

if a company is making 180k you cant buy it for 70k. unless there is something completely wrong there. Reality check required. or do you mean turnover 180k?

You asked for advice so here goes

Get a job and learn about business from the inside. This combined with your business degree will give you a much , much better chance of doing what you suggest.

Several things in your comments so far tell me that at this point you have no where near the knowledge or experience to go down this route.

Having said that , you are correct that it is possible to buy businesses and make them more profitable and this is often easier than starting a business. Selling businesses at a good price is another skill to be learnt as it is a skill.

Good to have ambition but experience in the trenches should be gained before risking large sums of cash!

PS

Do not count on the Spanish property market recovering anytime soon!! Think more in 10 year time scales for that market.

I didnt know that my lack of experience in that area was that apparent! thanks for the advice, I'll make sure I'll keep those in mind. If I may, what do work as? and please tell me what made you realise my lack of experience, is it because I didnt mention balance sheet?

I do not work, I buy or start businesses with a preference to buy make them more profitable and get managers to run them.

Your lack of experience comes through by the questions your are asking.

The route you are suggesting is one I live, however, if I had tried it without years of experience gained I would have blown a lot of cash.
