Business website

How effective would a business website aimed at local people be? Another thing to note is that the business wouldn't be selling thing's over the internet, it would be purely for advertising, letting people know about the business and putting up events.

Do you think it would be a costly decision or a decision that works for me?

You can't really say how well an idea will do until you have tried it. It all depends on how the website looks, what it does and how it's marketed. Why not just put something together quickly and cheaply then if it works you can put more time, effort and money into it.

I did find that having a website site to promote, I had to also advertise in a local paper to get visitors to the site. Having said that, I had a marked increase in traffic as a result.
Costwise my domain and hosting comes out at about a £ a week which allows a lot of traffic, e mail accounts etc. I did do the design myself though which saved a lot.

Go for it, Most people nowdays search the internet for companies regardless of if the wish to purchase

With some of the simple software now available, some supplied by companies like fasthosts who are also ISP's then it easy to quickly put a simple site together and have it up and running in a day

You will be suprised how much more credability it gives you
