Seems like a good idea in principle to have an experienced head to offer advice.

A business mentor is different from asking questions on a forum.

Its more like pushing you towards your goals rather than you just breezing through and asking a question when you need some advice.

Also it's quite a public forum, and not a place I'd want to share my business plans and aspirations

Ah I see. Apologies. Just not 100% on how the whole set up works. Do they generally charge set fee's or equity. Never researched it too much.

Never used one - so can offer no feedback on that.

Have done some mentoring in the past (still do a little via some local enterprise initiatives and a University). The feedback I get from them is that it is helplful to have someone you can bounce ideas off, and get some advice.

I'm new to these forums and have been really impressed at the quality and diversity of advice, and in many cases, a genuine desire to help. But you are right, a mentor is someone who you will share private information with and someone who will get to understand your business and your aspirations.

Not sure where you are based - but there will probably be some local initiatives where you can link up with someone without paying hefty fees. If You want to PM me with location I'll see if I know anyone locally.

I know a great 'business adviser/coach' where I am based here in South West London.

He has run businesses himself and provided business coaching and mentoring for businesses of all sizes.

I am normally quite cyncial about this sort of support, but he really seems to know his stuff.

I just won business mentoring from a shortlist of 9 other candidates.

the board of mentors include Directors of local businesses such as Island delight Patties, Sunrise Bakeries etc.

Im well chuffed, and im hoping to start making some real progress over the next year.
