Business electricity contract- can we cancel?

We're currently on a business electricity contract which doesn't expire until 31st March 2014. I can get a cheaper contract so would like to switch, but we're stuck until then. However, when we set up the contract we had 2 companies running from the same address, a partnership and a limited. The contract is in the partnership's name, which we have now closed in order to focus on running the Ltd company.

Since the partnership has closed would this enable me to cancel the contract and set up a new one as the Ltd company with a different supplier? Or would this not be allowed since we're the same occupiers of the property? I've checked the contract terms and conditions but I can't see anything in there about what happens if your company closes, only if you move premises.

Was it a self employed partnership or a limited liability partnership.

If its the former you are most likely personally liable as you are the business in this case and you are signing on your behalf.

If it was an LLP which is disolved then you can probably cancel, tell them the company is no longer trading and the contract will die with the company.
