Business cards

I usually get my business card printed with overnight print but after adding all the extras and the postage they come to around £30 for 100 cards. I want some very high quality 300gsm double side print with a matte finish.

I don't just want to go with anyone as I don't have the time to send them back if they aren't of high quality.

Who do you guys recomend? I only need 100-200 for now.

I'd recommend finding someone here. There are a lot of fantastic companies offering good prices. From past experience, stay away from VistaPrint - I got business cards off them and they're constantly harassing me with emails and offers.. biggest regret!

When I was 17 ran a business designing local directory magazines and I know finding a good printer is like finding a needle in a haystack. I do really want to go with someone on here and someone others can recommend.

Sound perfect to me and I love your website, its nice seeing the inner workings of a print business. How can I supply the art? I can give it you in jpeg or PSD?

Could you give me a PSD guide to use? for bleeds and and dimensions? I want standard size cards.

Couldn't agree more. I got suckered in with one of their "low" price offers. Got to the payment stage and the price quadrupled so I never completed the order. They still send me daily email (despite opting out of them) - straight into the junk mail!

I agree that Vistaprint can be aggressive. However, if you pick the right deals you can get a bargain (I select the 21 day postage service and they usually arrive within a week).

I agree, you need to know how to get the best out of Vistaprint. You are also 100% percent right about choosing the cheapest postage option and still receiving the cards in a week. I've never waited more than a few days for a Vistaprint order.

The best way of getting a good deal at Vistaprint is to go on the site, design your card, save it and then just log out without placing an order. Over the next few days you will get emails reminding you that you didn't order and offering you 500 cards for free. You might have to pay for the photo upload if you used one, but other than that you just cough up for the cheapest 21 day delivery and you WILL receive the cards in a matter of days.

I've been given more business cards than I care to remember and I've never made a decision about a company or individual one way or another other based on the appearance of their card.

Perhaps if they were a graphic designer and the card looked like it was designed by a child I would be bothered, but I generally couldn't care less how it looks as long as it tells me who they are, what they do and how I can get hold of them.

I've no idea why some people seem to think they are so important and spend so much money on them.

The main thing to remember with business cards is that it must remind the person you are giving your card to of Who You Are and What is the reason to do business with you.

If your card is just Name & Job tile with contact details you are wasting your money handing out scrap paper. This is because where most business cards are handed out is at events where there are lots of others also handing out cards & people having different conversations which just merge into one before they get home and it may be weeks latter that they are ready to buy the service you provide.

So does your card work for you? Is it a memory jogger? Does it stand out from your competition? Is it a referral generating device? Is it valuable to the customer?

I think this is an example of a case where if you see one thing often enough, eventually it loses that spark which makes it special. A commercial printer may offer some really good services, but when a majority of the people print with a single company and there isn't enough originality to go around, chances are that a lot of the products would look like rip offs from each other, and the products would start looking cheap. What is needed is a constant supply of ever-improving creativity.
