Business Bank Account

Hello.

We are looking at changing our Business Bank Account, and wondered if anyone has any suggestions/advice.

Currently we are with Santander who we set up with in October when we started up. We went with because they offered free banking (no fees for anything). But transfers from one account to another (both ways) take ages, and we would prefer something a little speedier.

We don't mind paying a small amount each month, but don't want large fees for transactions.

Who are you with, and would you recommend them?

I've been with Barclays for years now and yes I'd recommend them.

I havent had any problems with the service. I only really ever use online banking and I've always found it quick reliable and easy to use.

I have just opened an account with HSBC - transfers up to £10,000 are done within 2 hours and cheques take about 2 days.

It took me about 1.5 hours with Business Manager to set the account up this morning and it has free banking for first 18 months but you can get around costs after that by careful use of certain services.

If you want some details, DM me - my manager told me that he can set paperwork up here (Cornwall) and pass through to your local manager.

HSBC's internet banking is fine. However, if you pay cheques into your account, check out how that is done if you want to use a quick paying in point. On our HSBC account there was a maximum of six cheques on each banking and you had to feed them into the machine one by one while the system verified the amount. We might just as well have queued up to pay in at the counter.

It's often little things like that which become the deciding point between one bank's offering and another.

I agree with Nicola about Barclays online banking. Lloyds TSB online banking is a pain in the proverbial.

I've also been with Barclays for years. Good service, the online banking is very good and quick as well. They've always been very helpful as well. My wife has also recently started a business bank account with them and for new start-ups they do a good package which can include taking online and phone payments as well.

That means how long? I am with Santander (for the same reason) and sometimes I have the money my clients transfer to me on the next day but sometimes it takes a couple of days.

Most transfers are now done within a couple of hours due to 'faster banking' which came in a few years ago now. I think most banks are now signed up for faster banking.

I would warn anyone against HSBC - they might be fine if you have a very standard time and don't need anything vaguely out of the ordinary, but their internal communications are abominable and they are completely useless when it comes to communications.

We have had to change our address twice in the past 2 years and they are STILL sending to the wrong place. They sent us a letter detailing a sizeable amount of compensation for their incompetance... and they sent it to the wrong address.

So for long term banking forget HSBC!

I'm also with Santander and have received payments from clients within hours thanks to faster payments
