Hello :)

Just looking for some advice...

I am looking to start a web-based buisness, i have an idea which i feel can be built on. However, i am new to all this and there are certain areas that are like a foreign language to me!

I have 2 small children and work full time so trying to fit it all in is hard work, i am just hoping it will be worth it :)

Does anyone know where i may find a buisness mentor? Someone for advice, to ce crazy ideas off and some one to (maybe at times) give me reality checks!

Many thanks guys!!

Have you found an accountant with experience in Ecommerce. They will be able to chat things over with you about ways to go forward and ideas they've seen that work.

Thanks for that Martin! I have spoke to a couple of people on here regarding marketing costs particularly with online businesses, have you had any issues with this? Also, would you recommend using a template, paying a developer or building your own website?

Many thanks :)

I'm looking into marketing now (reading up on social marketing) as in my particular case I need to target facebook users. The type of marketing you focus on will be dependent on your business but if you're in the early stages then I would start by following lots of marketing people on twitter (it's strange but you will get lots of people following you in return) and start talking about the great new site on the way. Get a facebook page for your business and ask your friends to like. You may find people on peopleperhour.com that can help at a reasonable price.
As for the site a lot depends on what you want it to do (a simple site can be easily built using wordpress, available as a one click install on many hosting packages), if you need ecommerce or any specialty coding then its worth looking at vworker or elance.
If you'd like to

If you want a business mentor then PM me. If you want an expert in web based businesses then that is something different.

Let me know if you want help and advise in starting out in business.

From the research i have done so far, there are (as we all know) plenty of dating websites, plenty of social networking sites etc. But very few combine the whole package were social interaction, dating, engaging like minded individuals that meet online, exchange chats, then meet at one of the organised functions. For example, walking...even bring your pets! The concept is meeting online, getting to know a persons interests, then transferring these into a social environment. Whether the motive is to find a partner, a new circle of friends, a cycle buddy... it pretty much caters for everyone :)

With the recent changes at Facebook (push for paid advertising), people who post on FB have their posts only seen by 2% to 5% of the people who have liked their page.

This forces businesses to either get people to subscribe to them, in addition to liking, (which is extremely difficult), or to use paid posts as a way of guaranteeing 100% reach of their audience.

This recent single change has turned 'natural' Facebook for business into virtual waste of time. I'm still a big fan of Facebook ads, but the traditional or natural approach is temporarily dead while this change is in effect.

I'd recommend looking to Twitter and Google+, until Facebook cure their cranial rectal insertion disorder.

This is brillaint of webgeek, im also happy to do the same: altwebdesign on skype

Build profitable relationships with all people involved :)

Thanks for that, I will pocket the Skype address for when I have my thoughts organised enough to ask useful questions. I am still trying to decide if my initial idea is worth investing time (initially) or to try something else!!
