I'm looking for some advice on recommendations for remuneration packages for sales / business development jobs.

Historically all of our sales have been through resellers and word of mouth. We haven't ever hired for sales job positions. The job role will include helping to build existing and new reseller relationships and direct sales of our Cloud services.

We are looking to provide a basic salary with an uncapped commission. Looking at other similar advertised jobs there seems to be a big variation in the basic salary and little description on the commission offered.

We advertised with Recruitment Genius but have very few people apply. I'm not sure if the advertised basic salary has put people off.

Does any one have any recommendations on competitive remuneration packages which will help us find the right candidate?

We are ideally looking for people who have a couple years of experience, self motivated and would like the opportunity to help build a new team and the processes required to make it successful

this is really where we are looking for advice. The only example that I can really find was a percentage paid on the profit generated over a set threshold. I cant remember the exact figures but I think we were looking at a £5K threshold at 20% of any profit made.

The role is selling any cloud services which are typically subscription based, although we do also provide on premise solutions.

Some subscription sales maybe very small <£50 per month but it is repeat. Others are much larger opportunities. We would be looking to pay commission on each paid invoice.

Ive seen jobs advertised with a much higher basic, but I assume the thresholds are much higher. As we have a lower basic we would have a lower threshold.

At the moment though we have no experience of what would be competitive

I would disagree with you on the higher basics having a higher threshold. I know it could be industry specific but certainly within the telecoms industry you would be looking 30K basic, 20% commission with threshold of 3.5K plus company car/ car allowance etc.

Are your subscription sales on a monthly contract or over a 24 month term for example?
