Building a new website

I am currently building a new website which will offer local people the ability to find a team or opponent for a game of their choice. Whether it be a football team that wants to get together for a friendly game at the weekend or a tennis player that needs an opponent to play on a sunday morning weekly. This website will be linked with Facebook to get all the relevant data and will find people locally for a game. Once you have played against them etc then you can rate them and give them some feedback so others feel confident in playing with that person. I have done a lot of research and this has yet to be done.

What do you guys think?

I think it is a great idea, I have not heard of or seen anything like it. I have a few friends that I no would benefit from such website. The best thing to do is to pull together a focus group of friends or family or even from your local area and explain your idea to them. Would be best if they were interested onto different sports. Great idea - not too sure it will be a quick earner as a business idea, but if you can get enough people using it, you will be able to get some advertising revenue

Yeah great idea but agree don't know how high your profit will be. Going to be difficult to earn from that style website.

Thanks for all the replies guys will post back on here further down the line and closer to when it is ready to be released. As for revenue I was thinking either sports company advertisements as they can target the specific sport they sell and maybe a small membership fees. I was also thinking something like this would be a good app to have and can sell it for £1 or £2.

It should be something like Facebook or twitter with features of forum (or forum added to the site), So people will have profile page, place to post when and where they playing and if they need a partner/team. That will feed to timeline which is shown to everybody in that area. Anyway you will and up with something similar to Facebook. Do you really think people will sign if they just could adjust facebook for that?!? Unless there are some other useful features I didn't think of.

I think it's a great idea, and the app should be a winner too.

I like the profile page idea, what sports you play, where, when and when you are available for a game.

Can you include snooker as it's a bigger to get an opponent later as all my pals are too busy

It will be more like an extension to facebook than anything else and if you read my first post you will see that i said it will be synced with facebook etc. The app will have a map feature where the gps in your phone puts you on a map and shows you people nearby using the service who play the sports you do.

Yes I can add snooker and this just shows how the possibilities are endless for the amount of games/activities/sports which people can use this to meet others.

The are similar ideas with Golf, but if you are going to do multi sport I think you'll need to follow the route of match making sites with making it secure for people meeting for the first time.

May well pick up a lot of side income from lockerroom activity, if George Michael finds the site

I don't really like the idea of synchronizing everything with everything (nothing personal). I never login anywhere with my FB/TW/ any other account. Probably something wrong with my had. But I suspect I'm not the only one with this issue.

I really like the idea!... I think you would need to test the idea out maybe go to a few gyms and speak to people at the gym's and see what there reaction to it is.

You could even maybe pull in revenue from getting personal trainers on board as they would be able to link you to people that may benefit from the site.

But I most certainly think its a great idea. Let me know when its out because I would like to advertise on my business on it.

I dont think you should charge for an app if you are going to charge people a membership service. I think people will pay for a monthly service or "credits" that can be used to accept different matches. If you market it to the right age group and person, im sure many people will be willing to pay for a service. You could do some great things with an app for a service like this. THINK

I'm sure that your project will be successful. Later you can try to create an mobile application for the players to be involved all the time. I think it'll work well for your plan.

Not sure that it hasn't already been done - I already know of http://www.timpik.com/ on the continent, and there may be others.
I suspect your biggest hurdle will be getting financial backers.
But if you think you can provide a service better than anyone else, then go for it, and be prepared to be nimble and change tack when necessary.
