I use a BT Yahoo Mail email browser for sending an receiving emails. It has worked well for me over the years and I generally like it, however recently I have had trouble opening attachments with emails from a particular client.
When I save the attachments to my downloads folder, their file name changes to "untitled(1)", "untitled(2)" etc. and their file extensions seem to have disappeared. I can open pdf's and images in Adobe but drawing files (.dwg) will not open. I also get a "winmail.dat" file with every such email. This file is the same size as the combined sizes of all the other attachments and I did not get this file before the problem with opening the attachments started.
The client who sends these emails hasn't had any problems with sending attachments to anybody else but me so I have to assume it is something that I am doing wrong.
In an attempt to diagnose the problem, I forwarded the problematic emails to an email address which I rarely use now and found that I could download the attachments and open the files up without any problems. The browser I use for that email address is one that opens up on BT Office 365. (it is a hangover from when I had BT Business Broadband on a business line).
I work regularly with this client, so I do not want to have to forward emails to my other email address every time he sends me an attachment, so I am thinking of either using a different email browser or adding my email regular address to the account that uses BT Office 365. Has anybody any recommendations.
PS. The "Winmail.dat" file that I now get with every email from this client is puzzling. I cannot get many answers on Google other than it could be something about it is to do with MS Outlook or compatibility problems between PC and Mac. I am using Windows 10 on a PC and as far as I know my client uses a PC as well.
