I've decided to retire and now need to sell my business.

Its mainly an online store selling specialist automotive items mainly aimed at vehicles etc. in the leisure market. I have done sales involving my labour and expertise. There is no property (buildings) involved (there will be stock).

All agents and brokers are going to tell me they're the best, only natural. However does anyone know how I'm likely to sort them out please?

Yes I can go to Google and get a million hits for agents and brokers, however is there a more refined method please?

As a kind of generic answer, I would judge them a lot by their questions and promises

In a nutshell, a professional will as deep, probing question and will challenge your assumptions and manage expectations

A shirk will make big promises and agree with everything you say.

How much do you want for your business?

?4 million

Yes, I’m sure we can achieve that equals crook/avoid.

Thanks Jim,

I'll do some googling to see what I come up with. Are they from a personal list, or perhaps a website somewhere?
