I would be interested in hearing people's thoughts on how much attention to pay to bounce rate? I launched my homeware and gifts website in August of this year. I've just taken a look at my bounce rate for November and it's 55%. I just wondered if this is about average or not and how much attention I need to pay to the bounce rate? My site has approx 350 visits per month out of which 71.5% are new visitors.

Thanks

To be honest you should pay huge attention to this, its basically telling you how compelling your website is to your visitors, a high bounce rate means you are generating traffic for people that just don't like your site or are falling off the pages.

I think the average from last checking is around 50-60% but what it can do is allow you too look at specific areas of the site to where the high bounce rates are occurring and then you can reavulate the page content

We got our bounce rate down to around 40% for most pages just by focusing the content more and using Google Analytics to see what search terms people were using to find our website.

Information is key; the more you have about your visitors (what search terms they use to find your website, length of stay, pages viewed etc) the more you can refine your pages content or adapt your marketing.
