I'm looking to take on a book-keeper to look after clients books, using a computerised system e.g Sage, Quickbooks or Xero.

What is the going rate for clients to pay in South Wales, and what salary would a good book-keeper expect?

Thanks

Not sure about South Wales but in London, we pay £18-£25 per hour. I must say that we do find it difficult to get really good book keepers and the once that are good, we keep and reward them.

Not sure if that help as its in London, but hopefully it will give you an idea.

This price range is about right if you use a bookkeeping company (someone not employed by your company). However if you wanted to take someone one in-house you could probably get an accounts assistant for considerably less.

You say South Wales, but rates vary enormously across different areas of South Wales even...Cardiff prices are greater than Valleys costs etc etc. If you want to Pm me details of exactly where you are, we may be able to recommend someone for you.

You will find a huge difference in rates charged by self employed bookkeepers from about £8 per hour upwards.

If you are employing a full time AAT qualified bookkeeper I'd expect to pay in the region of £15,000 pa.

Do you really need a bookkeeper? Many accountants, myself included, now offer packages which include bookkeeping as part of the monthly package.

The trouble in Cardiff is that they all expect free prawn sandwiches! :p

Football?! Who wants to watch football? :| Better make the most of it, too, before they go bust again!

I'm quite happy spending my time watching a proper rugby team - one that plays in Black and Amber

If you are thinking of working with someone to do the books as a self-employed sub contractor, then they won't be expecting a salary and would probably have their own rates, worked out for the local area economy.

Why not see what VAs there are in the Cardiff area who may be able to help you out? If you are going to be using Xero, I know Darren has already got a number of VAs on the site who offer bookkeeping services (myself included although I now live in Cornwall not South Wales - Llanharan being my home town).
