I had a request for link exchange yesterday. Most of them get trashed straight away, but this was a high ranking site within a related industry so ideal to swap links with.
I popped their link onto my site directory and logged into their site to register. The automated software told me to come back in a few hours and my link would be live.
Anyway, I have just had chance to check it out and make sure that everything is fine. I opened their directory and clicked on my link. Lo and behold it brought my home page. Good, I thought, everything is fine here, but then I noticed that the page it brought had 0 page rank. Odd, I thought being as my site is a PR5.
It turns out this is not my site at all, just a page within their own site that looks like my site. It even has the correct URL in the address box! It's just a con to gain a free link. I am linking to them and they are linking to thin air!

If I ddn't have Google Toolbar I might not have noticed.
