Blogger or Wordpress for a newbie!

Hi

I am currently researching to start my new blogging site,

I have decided on the product/ niche market and have lots of material, knowledge and enthusiam for.

My aim eventually is to have a monetize (hope thats right) site.

My major concern at the moment is that whether I choose Blogger or Wordpress, I will have to access my site remotley for a considerable part of the year, so will this have an effect on choosing wordpress? I will not be taking my lap top which I work on in the uk with me, I use one that I have overseas.

Plus I am not a great techie either, so what would you reommend ?
Any comments please?

Wordpress definitely.

You can either sign up for a free blog at wordpress.com or you can download the blogging platform yourself at wordpress.org to install on your web host.

And if I download onto my web host, I can then access it all remotely wherever I am?


I am thinking of just going for 1 and 1, as web hosting, any comments?

No idea about 1 and 1...go with WP as long as you can be arsed with all the updating, which does get tedious. What are we up to 6 updates in one year?

The former, if you just have the one I suppose it's not too bad.

Your hiccup is wanting to monetize the site. For that you'll have to have your own host, so that you can put MySQL on, and thereafter some of the plugins you'll need.
If you are going to do this whilst you are travelling around you will need a certain amount of know-how, and it would make sense to get a host with really good service/help, (both to help check that it is set up correctly, and to give support as and when needed.)
There are people here who specialize in WP, (which really is the way to go), and they might offer hosting too. Otherwise Openmind, who I host with, are totally double f'ing excellent; there is also a loyal following for CSM.
In your circumstances I'd really, (really), not go the 1&1 route.

Are you looking at a photoblog? Interconnect IT is a member here, a WP wizard, (white hat type), and has his own photoblog. Might be worth a chat.

How can you monetize* a WP.com site? I'd love to know, as, being mildly dystopic, hadn't realized there was a way.

Well, that is of course the only problem.

I believe it is possible but it requires you paying for the VIP hosting which is quite expensive as it is aimed at high-traffic / commerical blogs.

Go with word press, its very simple to use and easy to understand, it will provide you with the tools and once you get into a routine of writing your blog it becomes a bit easier too! Good luck

 

Would definitely recommend Wordpress over blogger, much more choice when it comes to themes and add-ons.
