Hi - i've read a few times now people mentioning that blogs should be linked well to the main website. In my case - i've created a blog but dont actually have a main website. My blog will be my focal point of getting information across to the target audience. Is there any drawbacks of doing this?

also how much cash can be made from a website which gets a fair amount of hits every week/month? Not expecting thousands or hundreds but just out of curiousity id like to know how much can be made?

I used to make £400-600 p/m from adsense from a single website before I sold it.

If you get enough uniques p/m, cleverly position ads and dont iclude all info on one page (so visitors seek to find it) its easy to make a few quid. You can then sell the site for 9-12months revenue (£6k in my case)

It depends on how you plan to make money/how targeted your visitors are/how well your site is geared to conversions/what niche it's in etc. Sites can make anywhere from £0 to £lots.

Have you thought about how you might make money with your blog (advertising, selling stuff etc)?

In addition to the pointers nitro gave about revenues s/he achieved, you can also take a look around places like Flippa.com. This site caught my eye (a claimed $3,110 profit on only 5,175 uv/month). Looking at some of the revenue earning sites will give you some ideas of monetisation strategies.

Also, interesting websites for sale get posted here. You can often pick up monetisation tips by seeing how other people do it.

Just to expand on this further and to offer another avenue.......... If you have say 100 sites that only make £1 a day each, thats £3000 a month or £36,000 a year.

Sounds achievable, but in reality to maintain 100 sites is a major commitment... content, SEO etc.

But say you spend £1 a day on adwords per site and receive £2 back via adsense, then maybe its more achievable. This is called 'adsense arbitrage'..... choose a well rewarded niche that pays a lot per adsense click (e.g. loans/finance/insolvency) but pay half of this figure (or less) per adwords click.

That way you could buy a visitor for £1 (bypassing time spent on SEO) and earn £2 when they click off. THIS ASSUMES they leave your site via an adsense ad and this is where experience in ad placing comes in. I have had some limited success with this in the past, but it is a bit ropey.

Be careful though as you can lose money!!

Disclaimer - I am not suggesting anyone does this! Just an interesting discussion point!

I thought that arbitrage wasn't supposed to work anymore? I never tried it so I can't speak from experience.

I think a lot of people hope to make it big with just one site. Whilst it's a good goal to have, I think there are probably far more people earning decent money from a portfolio of sites.

Very interesting!

Couple of years since I have done it to be honest. I believe it can still work especially if you use an alternative to google for one half of the setup.

I came out in profit from only one site but there were isolated days I lost money.
