Black Friday

Jetbusters

I received a few emails from various companies this morning promoting their "black friday" specials. It occurred to me that lots of businesses are jumping on the black friday bandwagon, so decided to find out where it stemmed from.

According to Wikipedia, black friday is an american term. It is regarded as the friday after thanksgiving and the start of the christmas shopping season.

Seeing as lots of the big retailers are jumping on the bandwagon, I thought it would be good for people to offer their own "black friday" special offers in this thread! :)

24 hour special offers for your business!

I went to a fortune-teller because she said that she was having a black Friday special. She told me that if I crossed her palm with silver, she would reveal all.

So I gave her sixpence and told her to take her coat off!

it's a really bad idea, and retailers get into this sales wars just because they dont want to lose out on the buying frenzy.

Retail stores get utterly swamped, they just cut prices down willy nilly maybe only making negligible profit or perhaps even a loss.

Add to that the extra staff, the inevitable theft and vandalism of product and I'd be surprised if a store actually makes more profit than a regular day.

it also makes people withold from purchasing before the black friday so the surge is artificual.

There's a b2b vendor that announced their upcoming black friday and I'm just holding out until then to order.

I seem to be going against the grain and jumping on that bandwagon too - we are doing a special Black Friday offer, offering one 300-600 word blog post for £15, instead of the usual £40 for a one-off blog post.

We are doing it as a loss-leader so to speak, it means people get to trial our services (so to speak) and then if they want to order again in the future they can.

Basically, we have weekly free blog competitions and businesses that have won a free blog post have (7 out of 10), signed up for a monthly blog contract with us - so it's another way to get out amazing service out there and hopefully pick up more work :)

I don't have a Black Friday Deal of my own to offer, but naturally I am covering all the sales being offered by the major retailers for which I am an affiliate, and have a dedicated page on my website. This year, Amazon and a few other major retailers, have turned it into a Black Friday Sales Week, and run deals throughout the week leading up to the Friday. I think this is much better as it means consumers have a better chance of seeing the deals, plus it reduces the risk of servers being overloaded, which happened to some major retailers last year because their deals were so concentrated.
