Hello people, how much do people reckon it will cost to get rid of hair (mostly) via a waste management company every 2 weeks? Probably no more than 2 bin bags (maybe 3) full seeing as though it can just be flatten by pressure giving way for more space in the bag.

Kind Regards

I know youre not supposed to, but why dont you just take it home and put in in your domestic bin? or take it to the tip on the way home? - it is only a small quantity !!!

It only takes someone from the law enforcement to walk into the shop and ask how waste is being disposed of! I doubt they will just take your word for it and they will most likely require evidence before they leave the shop. Plus you got to keep a record of waste, 2 years worth or something. Better to go straight friend.

Phone up and ask a local waste company?

We have several of the big wheeled skips emptied every week for £9 each on general waste. Obviously you won't need anything that big, but most waste companies should provide a domestic sized wheely bin for a tenner a go.

Funnily enough I was talking to my hairdresser about this a couple of months ago. He was saying that he used to just take it home however some inspector came and asked what he was doing with it.

When he told them he took it home they said he wasn't allowed. He now adds it to the neighbouring shops rubbish (and I assume pays them something).

To get an idea you could get an online quote from a waste company - for example: https://onlinequote.biffa.co.uk/

I just entered 2 bin bags collected fortnightly for my area and it came out at £120 per year. Another overhead I know but it at least keeps you legal. :)

I was told by my council that I had to have a waste contract either with them, or with a private company. They did come to my shop and asked. At the time I was putting it in my husband's businesses bins (he's 2 doors down). But now i have a 2 week collection with Biffa, costs £12.

Is there a green use for hair?
Starbucks give away their coffee grinds for garden mulch.
There must be something that can be done from hair, after all it is organic ( ecept for the lotions and potions and dyes!)

You know this is the very thinking that create opportunities in even downtimes like this!

I would say you should see if you could find someone who would pay to take the hair.

Then go and make a business out of it!

There used to be a curled hair factory where my parents lived in Silloth (Cumbria) I don't know if it was human hair though.

They curled it and then vulcanised it and made it into high class matresses. I never tried one but they were meant to be very good and expensive.
