I have about 10 sites which I currently host with streamline.net (bad decision I know). The sites are html at the moment but I'm eager to switch to wordpress (how have I not discovered the ease of wordpress before?).

Can anyone recommend good wordpress hosting? (1-2 sites will remain in html).

thanks in advance!

If I were you I'd consider using a Wordpress network setup, with a domain mapping plugin to manage all domains from 1 install.

You can theme them all separately but it'll make upgrading a lot easier.

I'm new to wordpress - what exactly is a wordpress network setup with domain mapping plugin / differences / how do I get one etc?

thanks in advance

- what exactly is a wordpress network setup

It used to be called multi-user, and in other software it's called multi-tenanting.

In round terms it means instead of separately installing WP for each site, you install once, enable network mode and run all the sites from one code base. The big advantage comes when updates are required as you do it once rather than repeatedly.

Hey,

We've been around for over 2 years and are nearing our third year in November.

Depending on traffic, we have a package for £1.99 a month which comes with cPanel and "Installatron" which allows for quick installation of systems including WordPress, it literally takes no longer than 2 minutes per installation.

Additionally when a new version of WordPress is available, you can use Installatron to update it which again takes no longer than 2 minutes to do.

We're on hand through various forms of communication through the day and night and we're currently building a huge knowledge base to help with customer queries. If you need any help throughout the setup of WordPress we're happy to help :)

Throw my hat in the ring here because I can.. I do a special deal 10 sites for £99.99 - perfect for what you need 10 wordpress sites, for 10 domains and only one login - try my web developer deal.

Why get 10 logins and wp installs when wp has a function called multsite (wpmu) which installs unlimited number of wp sites in one install, all with separate logins and an admin panel to control all the sites ;)

Bear in mind that WordPress Multi User may not work on just any hosting package. If your network sites will be subdomains of your main domain you will need your hosting company to enable that. If you want to use a domain mapping plugin then your host will need to enable that also.

Multi-site is a good solution but requires 10 domains and 10 hosting packages for it to be run properly. The idea behind it is to run multiple sites and simplify content management not to cheat on domain hosting.

The simple idea behind my package is as an incubator - you can host 10 domains whatever they are and you can move those domains off or on the platform at any time. So, you build 10 sites and 3 of them take off and need their own platform, so you move them to my £24.99 hosting deal and then replace that one with another incubator site.

It works exceedingly well and is very popular with my web developer customer base. Multi-site would be a product out of place there really as you get one login for all 10 domains and can manage everything through one cpanel.... simples!

Wrong, the idea of multisite is for people to run multiple blogs without needing 10 accounts  Multisites need to be run on one account as splitting them across multiple accounts / servers wouldn't work.

Multisites main selling point is that you can update all your blogs from one login rather than 10 different ones. You only need to install an update once.

I use multisite for the above reason, it saves me so much time when installing updates. It's not to cheat on domain hosting at all.

Vidahost hosting is defintely compatible with WPMU - we run it on their hosting.

You'd need their medium package, which runs up to 16 sites, cost at the moment is £59+VAT/year.

You might be able to get 10percent off too, using this voucher code: GIVEME10PERCENTOFF

(not sure if it still works, worthwhile giving it a try)

They are awesome hosting and have ran our hosting for 5 years (personal and business).
