Hello,

I am going to build a website using wordpress but I need to find instructions and take some time doing that.
For reasons I do not want to get into I need to put up a temporary website that is not submitted to the search engines. I will wait until I get my wordpress website up and then submit that to the search engines.I also checked Website builder video for help, but wasnt satisfied.
I was wondering if you think that weebly.com could be useful for building a very temporary website that I could quickly dismantle once I get my wordpress site up and running?
Would there be any problems with my domain name or my host or the search engines if I did the above strategy. I just need to bounce this off of some of you to see what you think.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.

With WordPress it is easy to install a 'maintenance mode' plugin, which stops your site being visible and they allow you to put a up a simple holding page ( some quite fancy ) / landing page whilst you work away in the background. Maintenance mode plugins have 'noindex' options so Google won't list them.

This is the best way to deal with your problem.

If you need some help getting going me or @fisicx can install your basic WordPress setup ready with a suitable plugin, for you, at a very reasonable cost, you have the right platform from the start.

If you use weebly.com, you'll need to either build the website offline; on a temp domain name or a sub-domain of your main domain (dev.example.com). Once you launch, you need to update all URLs in the WP database, that's best done via a plugin eg "Better Search & Replace".

For SEO, if you don't want to get indexed, you need to make sure that you have a robots.txt file that disallows indexing, see http://www.robotstxt.org/ for details.

I can't see any issues using weebly. As you're not allowing search engine bots to index you, there's no issues with redirects etc. Once you're ready to launch WP, just ensure to have a suitable robots.txt file and submit a sitemap so Google is aware of your new pages.

Having said all that, I agree with Alan that a "maintenance" WP plugin would be easier as it'll allow you to develop the site on the actual domain, with no need to update URLs.

As suggested, install Wordpress and add a maintenance mode plugin. You can do the whole thing in about 10 minutes (if you get help).

I'm not surprised. most videos of this sort are useless.
