I would say it depends on your level of expertise. You could opt for a hosted shopping cart solution and simply add your products and have everything else handled for you or for a more hands on approach trying something open-source.

We have a list of over 50 shopping carts on our website. You can click on the cart logo to be taken to each cart's website and most will offer an on-screen demo or trial period.

You really need to provide a lot more information about the type features you need from an ecommerce platform so that people here can help you.

Shopify is easy to use and will get you up and running. If you do well and you can afford it then move over to something more robust like Magento
Just wondering, what exactly do you mean by "robust" and how is Magento more so than Shopify?

Maybe robust is the wrong word, I meant that Magento has a load more features and if you expand in a big way then it is better than Shopify and is my preferred method for larger stores. But it is resource heavy, doesn't look great and isn't as easy to use as Shopify. I agree Shopify is the better option for a start up, I think you could still use Magento but it will require more time and technical knowledge than Shopify. I started with Shopify and it was a dream to set up compared to Magento but in the end didn't offer the flexibility we needed.

That makes a lot more sense ;)

What features did you need that Shopify couldn't offer and Magento could? It might be useful for others to know?

In the main we moved so as to use multiple store fronts through one admin panel and it allows better integration with multiple sales channels such as eBay and Amazon (Shopify has an app but IMO M2E Pro has more functionality). We also have 80k+ products and I prefer the hierarchal structure of products in Magento to the tabs in Shopify, I couldn't imagine dealing with that many products effectively within a tabbed structure.

Having tried many of the various hosted options, I'd say ekmpowershop is worth a go for a straightforward site, its very good value for what you get.

You only really need Magento if you want to host your own site, or want to use more advanced features.

Bigcommerce worth a look too, if you want hosted, but with more control over template design etc.

It is not a easy task to find best web-builder for e-commerce. Firstly, you have to determine whether you are technically strong or not. If you are, then open source cart(Magento) is the best option for you, which will give you more flexibility and configure the cart as you wish.

But, if you aren't as much familiar with codes and want to proceed without having deal with technological headaches then i like to recommend hosted software to you like Shopify, Bigcommerce etc.

Hello! This seem like a vague question. But I think it would be best if you could establish a site yourself. Wordpress is a good platform for startup business. If you are selling jewelries, magento and etsy is a great platform too.
