Perhaps they are being paid ?

Seems a strange way as I can't see it driving traffic to them or being any SEO help.

Most people most links that take the tweeter to their site. These can popup on all sorts of websites who show tweets based oon keywords.

I've found the best way to use twitter for business if you can't build a repoure with tweeters is to post to other tweeters, mainly media like bbc. If they then decide you publish your tweet it trigger a good batch of followers.

we have over 20,000 followers on our twitter account 2celebritynews but we find that we only receive a small number of visitors from twitter to our site. so not sure if twitter is worth spending time on. a lot of the time i do it for pleasure rather than trying to get traffic to our site

You signed up for Twitter, added a short bio, uploaded an avatar and are Tweeting regularly, but still nobody's following you.
Now what?
The way most Twitter users (especially new ones) build a base of Twitter followers is by following people themselves. Lots of people follow-back people who follow them, so by going out and following people, you should be able to accumulate a lot of followers.

The account you link use it as an advertising spam platform. This is a wrong tactic, noone cares about spam on Twitter and that is why they have no followers. Similar to send 10,000 direct letters to random addresses. You will have the same results.

The biggest mistake most people do with Twitter is that they treat it as an "one nature tool" or to just "shout" advertising msgs to people. Like it is supposed to do just that or something extremely specific (in most peoples mind bring money).

Lets take for example that most people want to lead generate via twitter. now forget the online marketing era and go to your last networking event. Did you stand in the corner of the room shouting to people "I sell IT services, talk to me if you are interested?" Nope you didnt. Why should it be different with online media?

Twitter is a social media tool. Social media are to digital marketing what traditional media are to marketing.
Let us see an example of old traditional direct marketing.

For example a direct mail. You can send it for:
1) sell
2) advertise/introduce a new service product
3) customer feedback
4) build local brand awareness
5) drive traffic to your physical store
etc...

It all depends what your marketing strategy is and choose the right tools for the job.
so when I see people saying "Twitter is not working how do I make money with it" I simply dont get it. Someone said above that twitter is great for customer feedback. That is one way to use it. The company mentioned can use it to track complaints or conversations about their product and services and engage. That is what they want to do and they use this tool to engage with people. DO they make directly money with such an action? No. Do they benefit and build their brand image and customer service? Yes they do! Will that bring money in the future? yes it will.

As for the general practise of tweeting, RT-ing blog and having loads of followers in order to drive more traffic to the web site, not sure why would you measure it like that. Lets say you have thousands of followers and release a new blog post. 100 people RT your blog post but only 10 go to your web site. Did you check those 100 people who RT you? Did you thank them? did you add some of them to your "potential lead" list (if you have created one) for future engagement? Did you check their timeline in case they said something you can actually help with? Did you visit "Follower Wonk" to check users based on profiles and start engaging with them? Lets say you target restaurant owners. Add the keyword there and behold thousands of people ready to engage with you.

There is great potential in social media and twitter. Let us not jsut dismiss it with a simple "its not good" line shall we?

I think twitter is brilliant and one of the greatest online tools for businesses out there. i use it mainly for lead generation, talking to people and real time Trend tracking. Most of my blog posts are defined based on conversations on twitter. i track the trend, I write the post and then reply to their questions with my post.

Hi Jon Bieri,

This is a classic case of someone opening a twitter account just to say they have one. It's a bit like companies who use QR codes ineffectually just because other companies are using them - "Keeping up with the Joneses" as it where. Instead of appearing 'hip' and 'with it' it sadly has the opposite effect.

Each tweet from @OpusLettings are blog entries automatically posted each time a news item goes onto landlordzone.co.uk. To answer your question, yes - it helps with SEO albeit only slightly. Blogs are good as Google spiders them quickly and people can find your website based on the content within. So, if you blog about making a particular cake and someone searches for that particular cake then you might get found.

Having a twitter account which posts blog links does actually help. If @OpusLettings tried to engage with people instead of just posting links then it would help a whole lot more.

It's really bad for a company's image though to have a twitter account like this as it show's that the company isn't sort after or popular. If you're not going to use twitter for engagement then don't use it at all, simple.

I'd ask @OpusLettings is the small SEO benefit worth the harm it's doing to their image?

I hope that helps.

If you are retweeting, replying, mentioning, using a hashtag, posting someone else's articles this will leave a trail back to you or whoever is tweeting - therefore it opens more doors to people finding you and an avenue for communication.

On the other hand it could be spammy or an auto feed which just regurgitates others tweet's using an array of keywords and many pointless tweets get dragged in.

Getting business or click-through on Twitter is like most social media platforms (or even face-to-face networking). If you constantly spam people, only post links to your website, don't interact with others, etc., then people won't follow you, will block you and possibly even report you for spamming.

You need to build up a rapport with people, just like here on UKBF. If you're friendly and approachable, you help people when they need it by answering a question they put up, if you retweet messages you think other people will want to know about, etc., then you will get quality people following you, and it should always be quality over quantity.

Remember, depending on what phrases you type in you may get people auto-following you. I found I was being followed by a chainsaw firm in Texas, and I couldn't think why. Then I remembered I had tweeted about going to an event and "you could cut the atmosphere with a chainsaw". Obviously this firm had set up Twitter software to follow anyone who tweeted about chainsaws! Not to mention the people that spam you if you so much as mention iPhone, iPad etc.

Treat people on Twitter as you would if you met them face-to-face and you won't go far wrong. You'll build up a great reputation and people will start asking about your business, etc., and then even buying from you.

There's a lot of what I call "white noise" going on on twitter. Spam and great long lists of mentions. Let's face it, who really reads all this? I think it's misuse of twitter. It can be used really well and sites like social media examiner have really good tips.

I do not think their aim is to grow the number of followers, otherwise their strategy is the most failing I've seen. Most likely, they post paid adds or something like that. From my experience, posting content with links to another website can be also helpful. By doing this you provide your followers with the most interesting and relevant information and they appreciate your objectivity. If somebody writes a good content, why not to admit it and share?

This company seem to be posting a lot on tweeter, content from other sites.

Just wondering how this helps with SEO?

https://twitter.com/OpusLettings

Twitter doesn't directly help with Google-- At all.

That's because everything there is NOFOLLOW.

How it DOES help however, is that it's loaded with Bloggers.

And they are using search filters to find quotes and sources they can include in their blog.

So tweet smart. Get discovered. And know Twitter's backdoors like

A) How many messages you can tweet an hour
B) How long the search history stays valid
C) What time most bloggers are online... etc..

I'd recommend this video about social media marketing stats to help.

Very true. If you want to succeed on Twitter with regard to building a great reputation and even getting business from it, you have to stand out, do something different.

I dine out a lot on the story I tell about getting my 2nd highest-value call answering client through Twitter by telling them how rubbish our service was.

It's either:

1). Someone who doesn't know how to correctly use Twitter for social media marketing.

3). An automated bot used to populate their Twitter.

The only theory as to why they're doing it is to try and build valuable content on their Twitter so they gain more followers, but it's a very ineffective method.
