best way to get on google first page

Hi

Best thing you can do is first research the keywords you want to rank for. Then make sure your page titles include that word and the location you want to rank for. Also it is worth creating a blog on your website, Google loves it. Over all the most important is to provide quality content with good keyword density.

Also there are tools for Firefox that can help you, look for so toolbars.

Oh and make sure you have proper keyword descriptions and all tags for your pics.

Try to drive traffic from your Facebook page and twitter as Google considers that too, unlike LinkedIn.

I think it is a good starting point. There are a lot of other best practice's but it does take time and is a never ending work.

Let me know if you need more advice.

Do you use any cms system like WordPress or joomla?

Yes I have to second Money Road on that. If you need it quick and temporary, then Adwords is the way to go.

If long term SEO is the goal I gave you some basic guidelines above and you have tonnes of stuff to read online, or as Money Road said hire a pro. But don't expect wonders in a couple of days.

Can I offer a non-technical answer?

There is no free way of getting to the top of Google’s first page for any search term that is of commercial interest. You may be able to do it without actually paying somebody else, but you will need to invest your time in learning and doing.

There are essentially two ways of getting to the top of Google’s front page.

  1. Paying Google.
  2. Paying somebody else (or paying yourself with the opportunity cost of your time).

If you choose to go the route of paying Google directly, you use their pay per click advertising program called Google AdWords. There are two parts to the cost of this approach:
  • The cost of setting up and operating a Google AdWords campaign.
  • The money you pay Google every time somebody clicks one of your advert.

The alternative is working to get your website ranked in the unpaid slots on Google’s search engine results page. Again, you either learn the tricks of the trade and put that in the effort yourself, or you pay somebody else to do it for you.

There is no free lunch here.

The principal difference is the speed at which you see results. If you choose to pay Google and aim to have your site shown in one of the paid slots on their search results page, you can expect to receive visitors to your site shortly after doing everything necessary to set your advertising campaign up. I have seen adverts displayed on the front page in under an hour after making the campaign live. Sometimes it may take a little longer, but generally, we would expect to see your ads displaying, and people visiting your site in a matter of days rather than weeks or months.

If you opt to aim for the free slots, you have to pay now (either in your own time, or hiring somebody - a search engine optimisation expert - to do this for you) but it may take many months before your site makes it to the front page and start attracting visitors.

I have seen it argued that paying for search engine optimisation (that’s when you’re not paying Google directly for the clicks) is an investment, but I suspect that it’s not really. You see, Google changes the criteria they use to decide which sites should be at the top quite frequently. This means that effort is required continuously to maintain a good spot.

    Hi guys
I need some advice on how to get to page one on local google search listings.

First, What kind of website do you have? What is your targeted keywords? What kind of business do you have?

Its not just asking to get page one on google listings. You must provide specific details for us to analyze the website and suggest some ideas to help you.

You can get on first page locally if you have a local business (Google listing, etc). For national SEO businesses is harder because first you need to choose and set up a strategy (keywords, content, on page). Personally I would go for a local business now. It ranks faster !

I would also be very careful about selecting an SEO partner, the phrase "how do i get to Google's first page" is like blowing a horn and shouting "I have money, exploit me"

As a tip - if anyone claims they can achieve what your question asked in a few weeks for a few hundred quid, run (and they will! You will get plenty of offers).

Almost immediately obvious that you aren't particularly deep into the essence of SEO and Internet marketing as such. Google Adwords is a good quality tool for work involving traffic to a website, but the problem is that it is quite expensive. PPC (pay-per-click) may not be an effective solution for specific niches. Because working with PPC involves getting paid traffic that often makes negative ROI . SEO doesn't only work with matching the site with the search engines requirements, but also with usability, with a behavioral factor, increasing the conversion rate. Forming the ads in Adwords doesn't means conversion, it means traffic. If we are talking about ROI- orientation and about making money, we have to think about the effectiveness of a particular tool. SEO involves not only getting traffic or promoting your site in the top, SEO also works with analytical information and with increasing of the conversion rate. Doing SEO for robots and not to human - is SEO of the past. That's it.

I'd normally call someone who made such an uninformed statement a pillock but that would be impolite so I won't.

This should be done regardless of whether you're paying Google to send your visitors or paying your SEO to get Google to send you visitors.

That's the problem, they change their search algorithms on an almost daily basis and don't really know what is it they want themselves. Unless you physically run Google you can't possibly guarantee a position.
So? G wants good content, so give them good content. G wants good ("natural") links, so give them good links. What would G penalise a good site with good connections...? As a general rule, good sites with good links will rarely see any adverse effects due to algorithm updates.

Yes, but regardless you still can't possibly guarantee a position! It wouldn't even make sense or every website would be on first position on the first page for every keyword and, of course, that's impossible. That's why, personally, I'd steer well clear of anyone making such claims as it's complete nonsense.

    +1

Everyone is guaranteeing the same thing to their respective customers but there is only one top spot - its blatantly obvious that all but one will fail to deliver, and the guy that does deliver can't know for a fact beforehand that he will deliver because he doesn't know who/what he is competing against.

The competition may look weak, but the same way that one person is busy putting his SEO plan into action; the same way the competition is. You can't know what the competition is doing behind the scenes so you can't guarantee a result.

    Hi All,

I signed up here just to reply to this thread. I am not going to shamelessly plug my business here, I signed up to offer some insight as I hear about SEO horror stories all the time and it really really miffs me - but I just wanted to let you know that I know what I am talking about.

I am the director of a business that specialises in B2B SEO & Content services and I employ 5 people at present. Personally, I have been in the 'digital marketing' area of business for a decade.

Most of what has been said here is true on a general level, but to rank effectively on the major search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, mainly) a number of factors above and beyond what has been mentioned here need to be considered, not just one or two.

I never have and never will tell my customers that I can guarantee them to even get on the 'first page of Google' organically. It can happen and it usually does in time because we know our stuff and essentially that's what my business does - we get our clients websites to send the search engines 'the right message' to rank well - but its never 100% certain.

    I always say - to everyone - "It's 99% you and 1% Google"

What does that mean? It means that we, as businesses, do 99% of the work to get us ranked, but ultimately it's Google's 1% role in the ranking process that will determine how our business ranks organically on the search engines. All we can do is present our websites to the best possible 'SEO' standard.

What people have said here about content, page titles etc (on page SEO) is correct, but only AFTER you know what and who you are competing against for the search terms you're going after.

I will also say for the record that if you're a new business it also comes down to the quality of your research. Unless you are a localised business, and even then it can be very tough in a competitive market, you need to take so many other things in to consideration when asking 'how to rank high on Google'

    After we reach this point, it comes down to other key factors, such as;
    • How competitive are the keyword(s) that you are optimising for
    • Are your keywords 'head' keywords or 'long-tail keywords'? (I.E 'Loans' OR 'How do I apply for a business loan in the UK'
    • How long has your competitors website been in existence (Domain Age [DA])
    • How highly regarded and respected is your competitors website by Google? (Page Rank [PR])
    • How many pages, relevant to your keywords, do your competitors have indexed? (Index Count [IC])
    • How many 'good quality, non-spammy' back links have your competitors got? [BLP]
The above list is a very small snapshot in to the type of elements that my team deals with on daily basis for our clients, but it is something that many people either overlook or just don't know about.

The full list is a long and complex list to say the least - and that is why nobody (who is not paying for it) can guarantee you an accurate time-scale to get you to the top or near to the top of Google organically.

The point I am making is, while the answers here from other users are generally correct about content and title tags etc (and that's a whole different ball game!) its not as simple as that. There are many, many other factors that affect how a website ranks.

I am saying that getting to the top of Google organically (not paying for it) is not easy, but I am not saying it is impossible either - it depends on the niche that you're in.

Good 'online' market research, keyword research and competitor analysis, as well as ensuring your own website is the best it can be will improve your chances of getting you on the first page of Google at some point- but not overnight.

I wish you and your business all the very best.

    Hi,

As an SEO expert, I'd like to give you some tips as how you can make your site appear in Google first page on local search results.

    1. First, you need to make your site SEO (Search Engine Optimization) friendly. This means that Google could easily find your site whenever someone searches for a particular keyword related to your business. For that, you need to make a list of keywords related to your business and then try to rank them on Google local search results.

    2. Secondly, you need to make sure that proper On Page SEO is done, otherwise Google robots would not crawl your site. Please create some meta tags for your site that represents your site. This means you need to elaborate about every product you display on your site. This would eventually help Google robots to find your site's information quickly.

    3. After you are successful doing On Page for your website, it's time now to start the process of Off Page. Please know that On Page and Off page are both the parts of SEO. Without doing proper SEO work, you won't be able to plce your site on Google's first page. So, Off page SEO include submissions of your sit'es URL to different places. There are a number of popular bookmarking sites, forums, directories, etc. available where you can submit your site. This will eventually help your site to attract more traffic and customers. This would also help for a better PR (Page Rank).

    4. You may also go to some social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. and make a page over there. You can start an add campaign for your business that would help your business to become famous within sometime.

    5. Creating a page on Google Plus is also a wise option. After you create a page over there, just share what all you post on your website, like products, information, etc. It would really boost your site to get featured quick in search results.

For more information, you can search about the strategies to adopt to appear in Google's first page. I hope it helps.

To rank in Google, you need to make sure you have valuable content on your landing pages that are search engine optimised with key phrases (but not to a spammy extent). Remember, content on any page on your website needs to be unique and not regurgitated or 'copied and pasted' content, duplicate content is very, very bad! Also pages will rank higher if they hold a lot of 'authority.' By building up page authority, your pages will move up Google rankings and this is done through optimised content and genuine, natural link building. It's not easy so maybe it's worth visiting some useful blogs or sites like Moz - they have some great free PDF's that explain the basics of SEO and rankings!
