Looking at VoIP reviews and it seems most companies flatter to deceive.

I'm looking for a company with following attributes:
  • International calls - many countries served (rules out soho 88 who have good reviews)
  • Reliability - can't fail
  • Good customer service
  • Can serve a company that has UK presence only (rules out Nextiva - need a US presence)

Can anyone recommend a good company or am i better getting a landline if reliability is a must?

There are a number of good companies. I would suggest that you choose one that is a member of the ITSPA. That gives you some guarantees as regards code of practice, and most importantly what would happen if your chosen company went out of business.

As regards "Reliability - can't fail" none of them can give you that, even PSTN. The thing most likely to fail is the internet connection upon which your VOIP will rely. Choose that with some care and preferably with an SLA. Or even better have two quite different connections. It's unlikely that both will fail simultaneously.

I don't want to recommend a single VoIP brand. But when we implemented a VoIP system, we had these 4-point criteria:
  1. Easy to setup/use
Trust me, it can be a bit complicated and a lot of users walk away if a system is hard to use.
  2. Mobile access
Users tend to go offsite and travel these days. A VoIP system with a mobile app can be really reliable.
  3. Third party integration
Since we use a CRM, we picked a VoIP phone system that can be seamlessly integrated with it via a CTI (Tenfold).
  4. Multichannel support
If you'll encounter issues/problems, you need all the help you can have. Choose the provider that offers phone, email, and live chat customer support, 24/7
Good luck!
