Best uk back link checkers and an Seo query

Hello can anyone tell me of a good back link checker site for the uk? And also I checked a competitors back links who is no. 1 for my keyword bathroom fitter coventry and they do not have any on page Seo and have 0 back links according to the seositechecker which I used to check the back links - how are they no. 1 !?

Why would people glare at alexa? (my competitor who is no 1 has a backlink from alexa this is the only other time I have ever heard of alexa )

I used to check my backlinks in Bluebacklinks & backlinkwatch...also iwebtool is good source to check backlinks..

Open Site Explorer is pretty useful.

The Google algorithm is far more sophisticated than working out if a site has the most backlinks to give it a top position.

Many factors come into play such as age of domain name, page load times and also click through ratios from the search results page. Using SEO targeted tags in your HTML is no longer an important necessity.

I would highly suggest you take advantage of Google Places if you would like to rank faster.

Just to check the rankings are not being influenced by your search history, open up an Incgonito browser session in Google Chrome (press ctrl + shift + n when you already have Chrome open) - this will ensure that what you see is accurate.

I see mybuilder 1st, yell 2nd and 3rd freeindex 4th and then the first independent site which happens to have the exact keyword phrase in the domain.

In all honesty, you should be able to rank #1 for that term without too much trouble if you have a small budget.

I would second MajesticSEO, its a good tool for reverse analysis and returns the most detail . Also take a look at SEMRush, another good tool for identifying keyword positions outside of the search engines.

I loved and used yahoo site explorer but it is not longer with us R.I.P. so now I use SEOspyglass. If you are looking for a free or cheaper one then I either recommend market samurai or simply backlinkwatch.
