I was wondering where is the best place for a small business to advertise online? I'm talking about advertising with highest possible ROI ( return on investment ). Please share your personal experience or useful resources about the subject. Here is one i found: http://www.slideshare.net/iisark/case-study-1monthadvertisingon6popularukwebsites
I have no idea how legitimate this research is but it is a interesting read.

Hey there, it really depends on the kind of business you're in and also where your would customers look for your products. Are you a service based business or are you selling a product. Are you a "brick and mortar business" or are you online only? Those are factors that would determine where you'd get the best bang for your buck.

I've got a few resources I can share with you, but I'm unable to post links currently so you can PM me anytime. Cheers :)

Interesting article, but I never heard of toppages and looking at it is doesn't seem to be very 'big'. The domain has been around since 2012, but doesn't seem to have any significant SEO authority, so you are right to suspect the article as a promotional article rather than genuine 'research'.

As andrewcakebox says, it all depends. You will need to test to see what works for your particular business.

but you should advertise where your potential customers are.

    A truism.

An issue is that new small business are not always sure where their customers are, or importantly what will give the best conversion (ROI).

To make the point, I'm sure that a vast majority of small businesses potential customers are watching TV right now, but would a national TV advert be effective use of marketing budget for a small local business? Of course not.

You think I was pointing out the obvious but isn't it obvious that all businesses should do market research?
