Hi, i've been researching the best hosting sites with UK contact numbers. Has anyone else used ipage? Its seems to be reasonable at £1.99 per month. Comes with a free domain name, emails etc.....just need some advice please.

Hi Lisa,

Well it's american to start, which is bad idea if you're planning to host a UK site or site aimed mostly at UK visitors, as you'll get worse performance.

It also locks you into a year or more contract, and then charges you £5 per month after.

They also get pretty poor reviews http://www.reviewcentre.com/Web-Hosting-Companies/iPage-www-ipage-com-reviews_1485555 and we've never heard anything good about them.

You can certainly get better elsewhere. If you're looking to host a UK site you'll be much better off with UK hosting. A medium sized host is also more likely to offer a more personal level of service if that's what you're looking for.

I hope that helps. If you've got any questions I'm happy to help, we host a number of UKBF members.

Good luck,

Dan

I tried that 1.99 hosting. If you're used to cPanel, then prepare for the shock of your life, as the iPage control panel is bottom of the barrel, along with 123reg.

Your sanity, ability to troubleshoot, rely on others who are familiar with a system, etc, are all worth time, which means worth money. How many hours do you need to waste before that 1.99 super saver deal becomes a costly mistake? Not many!

Pony up an extra few quid, get great support and quality hosting from someone like Dan at HiHosting. You'll thank me later for this one, I guarantee it!

Well they have an 0-800 no, live chat, according to besthost2012 they have 99% uptime. Unlimited diskspace, bandwith and email. Free domain name. £1.99 per month no hidden fee's. Free site lock security, support, Marketing & design suites. Unlimited hosting space and data transfer. Google webmaster tools, site accelerator, estore, wordpress. Email ad's at my domain. Design and build own site. Choice of shopping carts i.e oscommerce/aggora. Yes you pay for the whole of one or two years but at £1.99 per month its cheap right? free advertising credits on top search engines, search-engine optimization tools, PC backup, malware scanning. I just want to know if theres anything else i would need for an ecommerce/eretail business because at the price quoted this sounds ok to me in comparison to others i've seen. Any ideas or information would be great. Thanks....

Hi Lisa,

No problem. I've sent you a private message in answer to your question to avoid saying things I can't on this thread, I hope that's okay.

Any decent web host will provide one click installation of eshops, shopping carts, Wordpress, forums and other web apps. Arguably the best out there is Softaculous, which we use. It offers over a hundred web apps. You can see what it provides here: http://www.softaculous.com/softaculous/apps

Here's the ecommerce section if that's what you're after: http://www.softaculous.com/softaculous/apps/ecommerce

We'd normally recommend Open Cart if you're looking for an easy to use shopping cart, it comes very highly rated.

Some hosts will also let you select the app when you order and have it installed for you automatically.

I hope that helps.

If you've got any questions feel free to get in touch.
