Im currently using EKM Powershop but its becoming slow and pretty boring! - its £25 a month too,

anything better out there?

The best solution is one that fits all your needs. So without knowing that it's hard to give advice. I tend not to like the hosted by others solutions so can't comment on them.

Apparantly i cant link to other sites,

its basically aquarium LED lighting ... so theres about 10 different products, ...

I would like it similar to EcoExotic or AllPondSolutions (if you do a google search youd see it)



its good because it gives me all the names and addresses instantly, but its really slow now adays, and not that simple to use.

Also my web name was registered with MRsite... but I want to own it completely, how do i go about it? or will mr site try and kick up a fuss?

If it's only ten products you have lots of options. Setting your own site is easy today but does take some hours if your new to it.

Send me the domain name via PM and I'll see who owns it. If it's in your name the is no reason why anyone should stop you using it or moving the hosting of it to somewhere else.

I would recommend Prestashop which is a professional open license - free to use ecommerce platform.

I had a look at the site examples you mentioned and you could easily create an equally (or even better) professional looking online shop with Prestashop.

I personally use Wordpress for a new ecommerce website that i've launched 2 months ago because it's a very very open platform and it's easy to work with.

I haven't tried any other options but I don't even think about it...

these are all worth a look

Well this is an interesting question. I have recently joined UKBusinessforum. In my opinion, wordpress is simple and easy way to get started. But if you are having many transactions and things depends a lot on internet business use prestshop or magento as Suggested by Tim earlier. I have been using wordpress for a few online e-commerce sites that i developed for myself and for a few clients but there are a few issues with wordpress with updates.

If you don't keep your wordpress upto date, your website is likely to be getting hacked at sooner or later.

What did you use to get Wordpress working as an ecommerce platform?

Sure there are many plugings but I'm using Woocommerce since it's one of the most renowned and there are developers that made plugins for it without having any connections with the company that created the plugin.

We recently moved to the Opencart platform (hosted by Vidahost).

Its free to use, easy to setup (Vidahost pre-installed opencart into our webspace) and lots of great themes available from Themeforest.net for £30-£40 one-off payment to the developer of the theme. A theme basically gives your site its look and feel - most themes are customisable to some degree in terms of your corporate colours etc.

We have 1200 products in our opencart store and it runs very, very fast with our 'medium' hosting package with Vidahost @ £5.99 a month (+VAT).

Very, very pleased so far.

Has to be said opencart is very much an ecommerce platform - if I wanted to setup an informative site for a local hobby club or whatever (ie. not ecommerce) I would choose something else but if you want a pure ecommerce site then it should work well for you.

Oh, forgot to mention that opencart comes with some dummy brands, categories, products, special offers etc already installed so you can edit them or copy them to create your own products and get your own store up and running quickly if your a novice which is handy. You can obviously delete the dummy stuff you don't need !

I recently used opencart and have been impressed. I didn't look at prestacart and heard magento was hard to understand and as a newbie to these things I wanted something I could at least work with on customisation (plenty of experience with wordpress etc).
Lots of options but as mentioned above try out the demos. You can always install on a local testing server too to see how you get on with it.

In our opinion its difficult to beat OpenSouce offerings from OpenCart (easy to use) or Magento CE (more complex to use - but equally a lot more powerful).

I quite like the look of the templates on squarespace and then have an external ecommerce? like cubecart...

anythoughts?

I have to agree with some of the others here a Wordpress based Web site with an ecommerce plugin may be a better option.

We have setup a few of these but tend to suggest Magento to people - however due to the fact you only have around 10 products I would suggest you look at Wordpress.

Thats really going to allow you to tweak things yourself, it will be quick and look pretty good as you can adjust the design yourself in a lot of ways.

Take a look at woocommerce or wp-ecommerce.
