Best E-Commerce Site

Personally, I prefer Prestashop although it's theming system is totally lame.

It depends on how much budget you have for it, or your technical position. I would actually recommend using the likes of Wordpress if you're not very technical.

Hi Josh,

We use Prestashop all the time. What do you find lame about the theming system?

I find it straightforward (especially compared with Magento themes) although with v1.4 they have separated much of the CSS from the global.css and I'm not sure which way I preferred to be honest!

Presta's upgrades actually render most themes unusable after they've been produced for earlier versions. I just spent so long converting the CSS for one theme that I felt myself grow old. It's hideous - and I know it's free but comeon.

If you take being 'user friendly' out of the equation then Magento is clearly the most powerful system out there. There is not a single ecommerce site in existence that does anything that Magento couldn't be moulded to achieve. That's not because the core Magento platform is in itself the best, it's because it has the largest base of extension developers that have between them answered every whim of any user.

Paypal just bought Magento, if that gives you an idea. Paypal don't tend to buy things if they are not a big deal. Several big retailers have ditched their multi million pound bespoke website software as it simply can't keep up the pace of offering modern features in the way an open source platform like Magento can.

As for the best ecommerce site - here it is: www.lingscars.com :)

So can lots of other solutions :|

It's good you got the inventory and stock control built in though. That's becoming increasingly important online. But a big push to say it's the best!?

Magento does all that plus more without any monthly subscriptions.

You need to ask, what is the best eCommerce solution for £X <-- fill the X with your budget. There are also other variables to consider, some platforms are good for smaller retailers (but can't cope with large volume) others a good for certain markets etc.

Asking without knowing a budget (and some of the other things above) is pointless, an ecommerce solution can cost anything from FREE to £1million+ (and as you can imagine, a £1million ecommerce solution is probably going to be better than a free one)

Typically it will be your budget limitations that will determine just how good a solution you can go for. So best to state your budget then let people advise.

No mention of INZU yet, for small businesses I think this is the best option as everything is combined in one package e-commerce,CMS,payment processing.

It's a one stop shop as a user but also has a great API that lets developers be very creative with how sites are actually built.
