We currently use Barclays creditfocus to credit check our clients. This only works on companies. Also from recent discussions I hear that we should be able to see CCJ dates, amounts conditions etc. With creditfocus we see only CCJ but no specific details.

I've been approached today by a so called 'multi-millionaire'. However we don't usually deal with personal people; usually companies.

I am currently looking at experian's products; which seem specialised and advanced. I would imagine they are the best as apparently experian run all the credit and supply the banks with info regarding credit; not sure if it's true but heard it from a couple of people.

What can people recommend for credit checking people and businesses? I'd say we check around fifteen or twenty new clients each month on average.

I am involved in a credit checking business called checkmyclient.com - the reports are £5 to £15 each and it is pay as you go with no commitment. The top level one gives a lot of information about the company financials, the CCJ's etc etc.

Let me know if you have any queries.

Regards,

Jacob

To clarify, Experian provide source data for companies who want to check individuals, they are the largest in UK. There is also Equifax, Call Credit and a few others providing similar servcies.

You can get free company checks at companycheck .co.uk , and for checking people then if you google the title of your post, "best credit checking services", you should find our company Number 1 :), however we are not the cheapest.

Thanks. I want to perform the credit checks myself on my computer with an unlimited amount should we need it. As we do get through a few checks.

Just watching cowboy builders and they can go online and they see how much is owed from companies with ccj's etc. A proper service; that's what I want. Anyone know what he uses?:p

For those who are looking for future reference to help:

Got feedback from experian today. They showed me there product; which shows CCJ amount. That is the only thing which is different. And the cost is £500 per year for 250 checks; as opposed to Barclays, which is £144 per year with unlimited checks .

Not interested with experian now. Taking a look at Creditgate :).

We also used to use Creditfocus then I discovered that the promise of email alerts with status changes just wasn't happening and the level of information was poor.

I then shopped around and after attempting to make sense of Creditsafe's pricing policy (a vastly different price for the same product each time I called them), we finally signed up with Riskdisk who are (so far) excellent.

Experian are expensive... riskdisk are an "info buyer" I believe - which means the info is dated by the time they receive it... never mind upload for their customers...

I've used Creditsafe for years and am happy with them, pricing structure isn't hard if you know what you want (and will haggle)...

Experian now own Riskdisk and the info is pretty as up to date as it can be (ie you tend to get email alerts for monitored businesses within 24 hours of a change). The package we have also includes payment performance which tells you how many days (if any) beyond payment terms they have paid in the last 12 months which is really useful.

I've used Creditsafe in the past and indeed have clients who also use it, which was why it was my first port of call and yes, I did haggle hard and got prices agreed but when I called back to buy after comparing, they would not honour it (it kept increasing) and just seemed a little "dodgy" in the way they sell the packages - not disputing the service is good though and when renewal time comes up I will once again shop around.

Ah Creditsafe... in general not a bad choice but their pushy sales people can half get on your wick... :D I've worked with clients who have forked £1000's for an "unlimited annual license agreement" (ahem...!) and in other cases have exactly the right deal for a fraction of the price.

The motto is haggle.. haggle a bit more and harder... and then put the phone down on them and wait for them to phone you back with a better "one off" offer...

Happy days.
