Hi Everyone!

Perhaps some of you have heard, NatWest (RBS) are introducing some pretty hefty fees and charges. I'm looking to move and wondered what your experiences are with other banks.

Looking for ones with low charges, nice benefits and a good mobile app (and any flying pigs whilst I'm at it).

Thanks in advanced!

Ben (md of Fridja).

Hi Ben

I have used Santander with my business bank account and have been very impressed. When I started I looked on money saving expert and found the information on there very useful. They generally list of the best banks for business / fees etc.

I hope that helps.

Thanks
James

Do not go near Metro bank. Today will be third time my mate will go there to open business account. On a first day they started asking zillion questions, spent 2 hrs, then bank was closing and they had to stop. He was told "come back tomorrow, just 10% left and we are done". Went back yesterday, another 1.5hrs of questions, then guy goes "I`m finishing my shift, come back tomorrow, we have just 10% left, this time for real!". He is going back today for third time, but 6th in total.

He went in there first time, but was told manager was not in, come back tomorrow. Went back 2nd time and was told to leave details and come back tomorrow, "we will let you know if we can provide you with account". Went back 3rd time and was told "Yes we can probably open you account, come back tomorrow".

Steer clear of these time wasters. Should have gone to Santander, I had account there for my Ltd, never had issues.

Very interesting comments on Metro, we have a couple of clients a week opening accounts with these guys and all positive. Hopefully just a one off as they're banking is good value. Found it a bit of a culture shift dealing with "Stores" rather than branches, very different atmosphere than a traditional bank.

The 'best' bank will depend very much on your specific requirements

As with any contract, just going for the cheapest could be a costly mistake.

Some general observations

Metro are great for individuals, but not yet very evolved in their business banking

Santander offer good value & basic service - but are terrible at handling any requests outside the ordinary

Do you handle cash? If so, branch availability and handling charges are important.

What accounting software do you use? Your accountant will probably have views on the bank that best integrates

Do you want to see/talk to a manager are you happy with remote service?

Ben I've banked with Barclays for several years and no problem with the service. The mobile app and online banking works well but in fairness my banking requirements are very simple.
