Best Braintree settings - Basic Credit Card Fraud Tools

    Are these settings ok? I'm new to Braintree ... in fact new to any other payment gateway other than PayPal, so unsure what the best settings would be to not cause any issues. I currently only sell to the UK so maybe that makes things a little easier to set up?

    AVS Rules
    Reject US Transactions and Verifications If:

    Postal Code

    • Postal Code does not match (when provided) (N)
    • For Any Transaction
    Street Address
    • Street Address does not match (when provided) (N)
    • For Any Transaction
    • Global

    CVV Rules
    Reject Transactions If:

    CVV does not match (when provided) (N)
    For Any Transaction

    CVV not provided (I)
    For Any Transaction

    No Risk Thresholds Configured.

    How you configure these settings will depend on the industry you're in, the risk of fraud, past history etc.

    I'd definitely enable the "Reject transactions if CVV does not match" option. As for the post code and street address options, I can't think of a good reason not to have them enabled, but I'm guessing a bit part of it comes down to how likely your customers are to make a mistake with their billing address.

    You could trial with the current configuration and enable options as necessary if you begin to see fraud attempts. Or, you could do the opposite - enable all options and then consider disabling them if your customers have trouble making payment.
