Hi,

Can anyone tell me the best way to record my transactions as a very simple business - I have no stock as I offer a service and that service is paid for at the end of the session.

I have just been looking at xero and that seems very complex because unless I have misunderstood it requires you to create invoices then list them as paid etc etc.

Any advice much appreciated, thanks

If you want a really simple (and free) package just for recording in's and out's I'd certainly take a look at VT cashbook. We have quite a few clients who use that and rate it highly. You dont create invoices in VT cashbook just record the monies received as sales/income.

If it's purely receipts/payments you need then VT Cash book as free would probably do the job as mentioned above. Xero or similar probably over complicating what you need and costing far more than you need to spend. You could raise manual invoices from Excel or look at Sage/Quickbooks it just depends on everything you need to do and volume of transactions you are looking at.

Hi, thanks for your help, I'll have a look at VT cashbooks thanks.

It is a pretty straightforward business. I pay out for room rental and advertising etc. and when a client pays me it is at the end of a session and is in cash or by card. The only complicating factor is that when payment is by card, I then take the receipts to the clinic owner, and they give me a cheque for the total value of receipts which they them keep. The frequency of this will generally depend when I happen to see them, it could be that day, it could be weekly or bi weekly.

Any insights into this and how/which system best to record, much appreciated!

Thanks :D

Sorry should also add I don't mind too much if it is paid or free - just want something easy to use and that I can preferably use on my iPad when I am in clinic as I could do it as I go rather than have to do a whole lot at the end of the week!

(an app would be lovely!) ;)
